Projector stuck on welcome screen

Hello,
I have an Optoma projector that I connect to my laptop with an HDMI cable.
The desktop background is projected fine, but without the icons, so I can't select anything and therefore can't project anything.
I tried starting the projector THEN my computer, but that still doesn't work.
Does anyone have any ideas?
