[projector] Blank display issue

Question

Hello,

I am submitting the following problem I have with a video projector.

With the video projector switched on, we connected a laptop to view videos. Initially, it worked: the video displayed correctly on both the laptop and the projection screen.

Then, while trying to adjust something, I used Fn+F5 to toggle between the displays. AFTER this action, even when trying Fn+(F5) again to restore the simultaneous display, I encountered the following issue: when I want to display on both the laptop and the projection screen, the video itself does not appear anymore on the projection screen. The icons and window are present, but the video window shows a BLACK SCREEN while everything runs normally on the laptop!

I must add that given the intended use, it is essential to see the video simultaneously on both the laptop and the projection screen. I have tried various players, Windows Media Player or VLC Player, but nothing works. I also lowered the laptop's resolution, but it still didn't help.

Could this be a configuration issue with the ATI video card? (I haven't changed those settings)

hello, indeed exactly the same problem!!! It's crazy!
I have a laptop (Windows XP Pro) connected to a video projector. I have shared my screen, so everything I do on the PC is displayed correctly on the video projector, except that it is impossible to play the video! Let me explain; the videos (regardless of the format) play perfectly on the PC with Windows Media Player, Real Player, VLC, etc., but while the video is playing on the PC, nothing shows up on the video projector; I just get a black square instead of the image!!!!

Hello, I have the same problem. I connect the PC to the VGA port, I can see everything except the video. I can even see the software, but it refuses to display the video image. Help!

Indeed, I’m the same. I’ve tried quite a few video players, but I don’t think that’s where the issue comes from. The best thing would be to update all the drivers, especially the graphics card drivers, and I even think that it’s really coming from ATI. If anyone finds a solution, please let us know.

Here are various things I just found on the Net for a similar problem. Hoping this helps:

"Depending on the card, the process varies.
For an ATI, you need to go into the ATI properties and enable Theater mode.
For an nVidia, you need to enable TwinView.
A solution that works regardless of the card: set the primary display to the video projector and the secondary to the monitor.

"Laptops generally have a function key that allows you to switch the display to the projector. To switch to the projector, you usually need to press the Fn+F10 keys (or another function key depending on the laptop).

Hello everyone,

The solution to this problem is the level of hardware acceleration. Indeed, with acceleration set too high, the image does not appear on the projector. From one PC to another, the settings may vary even if the same projector is used.
So, if you can play a video on the computer screen but the image on the projector is the same except that playback does not happen, lower the hardware acceleration and test from level to level as you decrease it. The setting is usually made in the Windows desktop properties, then settings and Advanced.

I need to project a video on a black backdrop. I need to find a screen that can be invisible throughout the entire show. Do you have any solutions (of course as cheaply as possible since it's a low-budget production), knowing that the screen must be in place from the start and I can't use pulleys to raise a cover or lower the screen.

I had the same black display issue with my projector after completely reconfiguring my PC.
The solutions proposed in this forum are good; it was a settings issue with the accelerator. But it's not about 60Hz, etc. You need to go to the desktop, right-click, properties, Settings, Advanced, then the "Troubleshooting" tab, and reduce the "hardware acceleration" slider. For me, it needs to be in the middle for everything to work properly.

Hello, as far as I'm concerned, the problem only occurred when I used VLC... with media player I didn't have the issue. I have to give lectures in an auditorium... and I have one coming up, I think I'm going to ask to do a test before the day of my lecture to see if your solutions work with VLC because I need to project a video that only plays with VLC and not Windows Media Player... I might be in big trouble...

I solved the problem by lowering the hardware acceleration.
I was experiencing the issue of the video not appearing on the projector (black square in the middle of the desk).

To access it: right-click on the desktop > properties > Settings tab > Advanced > Troubleshooting tab > move the slider to the left
