Photo pixelation issue in InDesign

In InDesign, what displays by default is a low-resolution image.

The images are not embedded in the document but are pixelated, and a link is created to point to where they are stored on the hard drive or elsewhere. If the images are moved, or stored on a removable drive (USB key or otherwise) and that drive has been removed, the link no longer exists and the low-resolution display will be worse (it's a way to quickly see that a link is broken!).

Even though "copy/paste" is possible, the best way is to use the "place" command intended for that.

An option in the "view" menu allows you to choose the "display performance." The quality depends on the choices made in the "edit/preferences/display" menu. Normally, the default choice is more than sufficient.

Work in a structured manner by creating a folder where you will put all the necessary files (images, drawings, texts, etc.). InDesign needs all its files to work properly. There is a function in the "file" menu that does this: it is the "package" function.

As already mentioned, the display in InDesign is just a preview..

Open the images in Photoshop or Gimp and check their quality. An image should not be enlarged by more than 20% of its native size if you want to avoid too visible pixelation.

Also, check that the links are valid in the links window. If there's a yellow triangle or if there's nothing, it means the images are not valid.

If the images are of poor quality, they will print in poor quality. (Also check during printing in the "graphics" option that the sending of graphic data for images is set to "all").

There are 2 tools for checking a file in the process of being created or before sending it to the printer...

The first is the links palette located in the "View/Links" menu (or Shift+Ctrl+D), although this may depend on the versions of InDesign...

The second thing is the "Preflight" that can be found in the "File" menu; here you need to read the information carefully and possibly uncheck "Errors only."

I'm sorry, I don't understand everything.

Actually, I have a PowerPoint document with embedded images; it's these images that I'm copying and pasting.

I tried to import them. I saved them in "My Documents" as JPEG and imported them: the result is still pixelated.

I don't understand what else to do; I went into display performance and set it to maximum, but it hasn't changed anything.

I never enlarge my images, I always shrink them!
What is the link window?
And I tested printing a page and it printed an image that was completely unreadable!

I tried importing my images into an InDesign document and then copying/pasting them into my own document, and the result is the same (even though the quality is great when my cards are in my PowerPoint file).

In my link window, everything is fine, no errors or anything, except that my images are still unreadable... I don't understand :'(

And in the upstream control, I only have excessive text errors. No images or links. So I don't see the problem at all. Especially since some of my images display correctly while I copied and pasted them from Paint without keeping the file! Hmm, I think I missed something!
