Hello, I have a TI-82, I changed the four small batteries recently but I haven't changed the small round one, should I change it before it dies? What is the purpose of this battery?
If I change the battery, will I lose my data? If so, how can I do it?
Thank you for your responses
Configuration: Windows Vista / Firefox 3.6.13

Hi,
Change only the big batteries, the small one is only used to keep your programs when you turn it off.
So a tip, don't touch the small battery ;)

But if the internal battery is dead and we change the "big" batteries, even one by one, does that delete the programs? If so, how do we change them then?

There's little chance that it's dead. You would have already changed the batteries on it 10 times before the little one became weak. And I think your programs would be deleted if the internal battery was dead. When you turn off your calculator, even if your big batteries are brand new, it's your small battery that keeps the memory. So you would know right away if it wasn't working. Moreover, it's highly likely that your calculator won't function if that small battery is missing, or if it's dead (to check).
If you're really that afraid of losing your programs, the best thing to do would be to copy them to another calculator, like that of another student, because I doubt you want to buy a second calculator just for that ^^

No, there is very little chance. The calculator only uses a tiny bit of energy for that, while you change your batteries when they are dead. It serves to retain memory and therefore also the programs. Your calculator will certainly have died before your battery ;p
