USB 3.0 Speed Issue!!! 30MB/s :s

Hello everyone,

It's very simple, I wanted to ask if any of you would know where I might have made a mistake...

I bought myself the LaCie RUGGED USB 3.0 for Christmas, which promised performance to blow your mind, and in reality, what a disappointment!!!! source: http://www.01net.com/...

I'm not that much of a novice, and I obviously got a PCI USB 3.0 card, the drivers for this card from touslesdrivers.com. Then I plugged in the "monster" and did a file transfer of 90 GB, and there, I never saw the 110 MB/s!!! I'm averaging 30 MB/s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pathetic...

Any advice is welcome, I'm not using any program to transfer my files, just Windows 7 x64 ^^

Here’s my config:
EVGA x58 Classified SLI
Proc i7 920 OC @ 3.8GHz
6GB DDR3 1333
SSD Vertex 60 GB
Corsair 800W PSU
2x HD 5850 OC

Thank you
Configuration: Windows 7 / Safari 534.10

Hello,
sorry for the late reply, but better late...
I believe there is some confusion regarding USB3 component speeds:
the theoretical speed is 600MB/s; you know that this theoretical speed is never reached, in practice we usually manage to get half of that, which is already 10 times better than USB2 speed (in practice ~30 MB/s with high-speed drives)
And this is where it should not be forgotten that this speed will not be reached with just any USB3 device, nor on any USB3 port!

Hardware Magazine No. 49 tested several USB3 devices and noted the performance on HD Tune and while copying files
3 USB3 drives were tested, as well as external HDDs, and also USB3 controller cards for PCs that do not have USB3 ports
The results are often very far from the theoretical speeds, but in line with those advertised
For example, the Kingston Data Traveler Ultimate USB3 drive, advertised at 80/60MB/s for reading/writing, gives 82/55MB/s in reading/writing on HD Tune:
very close to the advertised value.
Some external HDDs are already getting a bit closer to the practical limit:
the OCZ Enyo 128GB achieves 255/182MB/s in reading/writing with HD Tune.
The Icy Box PCI-E x1 controller card tops out at 175/140MB/s in reading/writing on HD Tune; there's no need to buy an OCZ Enyo with this controller card...
In contrast, the Asus U3S6 controller card delivers the maximum speed, using a PCI-E x4 connection, and also provides SATA 3 ports, but it costs double

Some USB3 ports on laptops only deliver 75MB/s measured!

Be very careful with manufacturers' specifications when buying a USB3 device, and what you connect it to
In the future, performance should improve as chipsets manage USB3 natively ;)

It's always good to have a summary.
Thank you.
