Pb installation PHP sur apache

J'ai installé php en module sur apache2.
dans un fichier info.php je mets :
<? phpinfo(); ?>
J'obtiens les infos souhaitées
dans un fichier text.htm, je mets:
<html>
<head><title>Exemple</title></head>
<body>
<?
echo "Hello world";
?>
</body>
</html>
ca marche pas!!
je ne vois pas où est mon erreur dans l'installation de php ou dans celle d'apache.
