Passwords storage in Outlook

Hello everyone, I had the same really annoying problem but I've resolved it with a method that hasn't been mentioned yet:
tools then account settings then highlight the concerned account then click on repair, it will say once that it doesn't work but it will try something else (don't forget to enter your login details if they don't appear in the window, then finish and THERE YOU GO

Outlook Express asks you for your account password every time it connects to the POP3 server to retrieve your messages.

To eliminate this issue, do the following:

Close Outlook Express, then click on Start, Run, and type regedit. Go to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\Microsoft\Protected storage System Provider. Click on the "+" in front of this key to expand it. Then delete the key starting with "S-1-5-21". If this key is not there, look for it in the branch HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Microsoft\Protected storage System Provider.

Restart Outlook Express and click on "Tools > Accounts". Then select your account in the Mail tab and click on the "Properties" tab. Click on the "Server" tab and enter your password. Check the box "Remember password" and click OK. The problem should not occur again.

I was so fed up with this story that I did a system restore going back 10 days and now it's much better... at least it only asked me for my password twice since then, it's quite manageable...

If it comes back, then I'll follow the procedure by launching the executable....

check the "remember password" box, I had already done it, but it doesn't work. As soon as I close Outlook and reopen it, the passwords disappear...

- Go to File
- Click on Identity and then choose Manage Identities
- Select the name of your identity (if you haven't created any other identities, select Primary Identity) and click on the Properties tab.
- Finally, check the box Require a password and confirm by clicking OK.

I also have roughly the same problem.
Everything was working fine until a few days ago (I use Outlook 2003 for my @yahoo.fr email, my ISP is Neuf). And today it asks me to enter my password about every 2 minutes in a window where it is already filled in. If I click OK or Cancel, it still works without entering my password (I also press Escape and it works...). In the settings of my email account, the "remember password" box is checked.

In short, I can use Outlook, but this window popping up constantly is really annoying, especially since sometimes I have to click 5 or 6 times on OK or Cancel for it to get...

I want to point out that I had the same problem about a year ago, it resolved itself but I don't remember how... it might have just fixed itself since the problem has come back (at least that's how I feel).

Same issue with Outlook 2003 when I transferred my email accounts from a machine running XP (on which there is no problem) to a new machine running Vista Home.
No issues during the installation of this version of OUTLOOK 2003 under Vista.
No functioning problems with the software after entering the passwords.

I also just encountered this wonderful problem. For my part, I switched to Thunderbird on my last PC (Windows XP), and when I migrated to Windows Vista, I had no issues. However, my partner still uses our good old machine, Outlook version 2002, and there, bam: impossible to get it to remember those pesky passwords!

It's a Microsoft bug under Windows VISTA.
Microsoft does not provide any fix for Outlook XP (reason: it is no longer supported, you need to buy a newer version of Outlook).
There is a workaround, which involves creating a small script that automatically enters the passwords into Outlook XP:

This will save you an unnecessary investment in a new version of Office.

Another solution: change your email client. In other words: hasta la VISTA Outlook :-)

Needless to say, Microsoft's commitment to the longevity of its applications is utter nonsense. In short, I believe this is a dead end, but thanks in advance if anyone finds another solution!

I had the same problem as you. To resolve it, I just deleted the problematic account (in Tools/Account Settings) and then created a new account with the same settings.
This does not delete the emails already received with that account, and it fixed the problem for me.
However, it does not explain why Outlook suddenly stops working! :p

I also can't delete this key.
It seems that the problem starts when I send out bulk emails. It might be some sort of protection from Outlook...
Anyway, I'm stuck, I'm not receiving anything anymore....
