PC stuck on BIOS screen

Hello,

For a few days, my PC has been freezing at startup (on the BIOS screen).
Sometimes a screen offers me to start either in safe mode or with the last known good configuration, etc., but the keyboard doesn’t respond, so I can’t do anything...

I would need some guidance on the possible causes of this problem, please.

Additionally, I read on a post about someone having the same issue who suggested doing a clear CMOS (I had never heard of this before...).

1. Turn off the PC,

2. Unplug the power cord,

3. Remove the side panel of the PC to access the components,

4. Touch the PC case to equalize the electrical potential of your body with that of the computer,

5. On the motherboard, find the flat battery, and next to it, the jumper that allows you to reset the BIOS.

6. Move the jumper and then put it back.

I might be a bit clueless, but I don't get step 4...I don't see what needs to be touched...

And finally, doing this won’t risk anything, right? I mean, it won’t damage the BIOS or anything like that?

Some may find these questions silly; perhaps the problem itself is trivial, but please be understanding, not everyone is a computer whiz...

    It's probably the keyboard that didn't charge, it happened to me once.

      I tested the keyboard on another PC, it works well, and I don't think a keyboard issue would prevent a PC from starting up... but thank you for your input :)

    Hello.

    Try this:
    - unplug the computer tower from the power supply
    - locate the battery on the motherboard
    - remove the battery (possibly wait a few seconds, or press power to drain residual energy)
    - replace the battery
    - plug it back in
    - restart

    I'll try that if I really can't reboot anymore, thanks.

    Otherwise, could my problem come from something else?

    Hello.

    Your registry may be corrupted and Windows may not start. In that case, you need to insert the restoration CD into the drive and boot from it to request a "restoration."

    The recovery CD... is it a CD that came with the Windows XP installation CD, or is it a CD that we have to create ourselves?

    I really feel dumb...
