3D TV + 3D movie: how to enjoy it?

Hello,

I have a 3D TV (Samsung UE40C8700), unfortunately I am not fully utilizing it as I lack knowledge in the TV field.

I do not have a 3D DVD player. Therefore, I plan to invest in either a 3D Blu-ray DVD player or a home cinema system that also includes a 3D Blu-ray DVD player.

Several questions:
- How do I burn 3D movies? Do I necessarily need a Blu-ray burner? To burn a 3D movie, do I need specific software or is it determined by the burner itself?

I am hesitating between this home cinema:

    Download 3D movies in Side by Side. Then use an external hard drive and play them on a Samsung TV (3D mode left/right or top/bottom).
    Otherwise, you can download 3D BR ISOs and convert them to side by side yourself. However, you need to have a powerful PC...
    The last option is to play 3D BR ISOs on your PC and output via HDMI 1.4 using a recent graphics card.

      I have a 3D Blu-ray home theater system and I download movies in 1080p MKV (so from Blu-ray?) and I would like to copy them onto my hard drive and then connect it to my home theater to watch them, but I can't copy them onto the hard drive!!!

      Plug in your drive -> Open the command prompt (type "Command Prompt" in the search)

      You’ll be faced with your command thing. Let's say your hard drive has the letter E:
      You would type: "convert e: /fs:ntfs"

      Let’s say your drive letter is T:
      You would type: "convert t: /fs:ntfs"

      P.S.: Wait until the line "the conversion is complete" is displayed ;)

      Got it? Then just let it do its thing.
      The advantage of NTFS is that you can store movies, for example, of 10GB. Whereas with FAT32, you can't.
      The downside of NTFS is that you can't use it across all platforms. Consoles like Xbox, for example, don't support it.

      Oh yes, a small caveat, switching to NTFS is easy. To switch to FAT32, you need to format it ;)

    Hello,

    I just want to share my feedback on passive 3D (on LG TV) viewed from a PC.

    Passive 3D does not require "compatible" equipment (no need for a 3D compatible graphics card). All you need to do is display a normal 1080-line image with 1 line out of two for each eye. A basic graphics card can easily handle this.

    All PowerDVD does is display this particular image (2 images of 540 interlaced lines), then you just have to put on the glasses that will filter the lines of the polarized screen, odd lines for the left eye, even lines for the right eye.

    As for side-by-side 3D videos, you just need to tell the TV to convert the two images back into the 1 line out of two mode (this is done with the "3D" button on the remote control on LG TVs) and it's ready to go.

    That's it for passive 3D, which is much less complicated than active 3D that requires synchronization with the glasses.

      Salut DZ, j'ai vu que ta TV était une LG, ce qui m'intéresse ! Sais-tu quel logo choisir quand tu cliques sur 3D de ta télécommande pour regarder un Blu-ray 3D via un lecteur Blu-ray 3D ? Car je trouve que l'effet 3D n'est pas terrible quand je regarde Pirates des Caraïbes. Il y a 3 logos que je peux sélectionner quand j'ai juste la TV allumée et 2 en plus (5) quand j'allume le Blu-ray 3D branché en HDMI.

      Hello,
      when using the USB stick directly plugged into the TV, this TV does not allow 3D mode. That's how it is. However, it does allow it if the source is connected via HDMI.
      So, I'm trying to think of a way to bypass this problem:
      - either get a multimedia hard drive that reads .mkv in SBS connected via HDMI
      - or a computer via HDMI
      - or a Blu-ray player with the USB stick connected to it.

      Only the first option is certain to work, according to blogs.
      The second and third depend on the source and our Toshiba TV, I need to try.
      My hard drive can't read those .mkv files, my computer is too old and doesn't have HDMI (but I will try with a friend's computer), and I don't have a Blu-ray player.
      If I find a solution, I'll post it. If anyone else has already found a solution, I'm open to suggestions.

    Sèb, side by side movies are a video file that contains 2 images "side by side", the movie for the right eye and the one for the left eye. You can find plenty on YouTube (just type youtube 3D in Google, they have a special channel).
    There are many HD files (h264) in 1080p or 720p; if you don't know how to download them, you might connect your 3D TV to the internet to watch them online?
    You need to configure your TV in 3D "side-by-side" if it doesn't do it automatically.

    If you don't have a 3D TV, you can still get a very good effect with cross-eyed viewing without glasses or in anaglyph with simple red/blue glasses; all options are available on YouTube 3D, they've done a great job!

    Otherwise, with the 3D Blu-ray player or the PS3, 3D Blu-ray movies are not that expensive considering the technology. I saw earlier at Fnac the 3D Blu-ray of Alice in Wonderland for less than 25 euros (and I saw some for 15 euros on online stores).

    Comment faire pour que ma PS3 reconnaisse les MKV et MKV3D ? J'ai un disque dur Samsung avec plein de DivX, elle lit tout, mais pas les MKV et MKV3D. En revanche, j'ai une TV LG 42LW570S 3D qui lit directement les DivX et MKV sur le côté (via port USB), mais je suis coincé. Je voudrais profiter pleinement de ma TV 3D et lire les Blu-ray en 3D, mais il est impossible de lire les 3D. En revenant à la PS3, sur mon disque dur, c'est bizarre, je ne vois même pas mes films dans le lecteur USB, tout ce que je vois ce sont des DivX, mais pas les MKV. Y aurait-il une configuration à faire ou autre pour regarder du vrai 3D, soit par ma TV (je ne pense pas, car je pense qu'elle lit que les MKV malheureusement, alors que c'est une 3D) ou plutôt par ma PS3 ? Merci beaucoup.

    It works very well... but with the glasses upside down !!!!! Isn't that weird? When I put the glasses on correctly, the movie is odd. And in the TV menu, you can't reverse it... Problem with the film's compression itself?

      For your issue with the upside-down glasses, I don't know, it's strange. Are you sure you're using Samsung glasses and not Panasonic?
      Each manufacturer has developed its own system for its glasses. So you absolutely need Samsung glasses.

    The subject has never really been explored...
    For several days now, I've been trying in vain to find a way to convert 3D video into Full Side-by-Side {two images side by side, so 3840x1080} into "sequential frame"/interleaved or others.

    I don't want Half Side-By-Side {1920x540, I believe} because it would look worse than 720p...

    Converted to AVCHD for playback through the integrated ShowTime player in Multiman on PS3, but nothing works, stuttering + CPU is too slow, but 3D detection by my 50GT30 at best or no image but sound.

    I should mention that I'm doing these tests with the 3D trailer of the animated film Dragons.

      Problem SOLVED with just an HTPC, let's see when Syabas will release the Popcorn C300, maybe with the new chip that decodes, hopefully, the FULL SIDE-BY-SIDE 3D streams.

    Hello,
    I bought a Samsung Series 6 TV with 3D, and I downloaded a 3D movie... but I can't get it to work... even though it's in .mkv format and the TV manual says this format works on the TV...
    Does anyone know what's going on?
    Apparently, it's not side by side but one image on top of the other... (that's what I can see on the computer with VLC...) I don't know if that changes anything...
    Can you explain it to me in simple terms, please...? I'm really not good in this area...
    Do you have any good download sites? Before buying 3D Blu-rays, I want to see what it's like first to know if it's worth it...

      Burning a 3D or 2D Blu-ray is the same. Any Blu-ray burner can burn a 3D movie.
      It's just the content of the Blu-ray that changes: a video for the left eye and a file for the difference between the left and right eyes. So every 3D Blu-ray contains the 2D version (no need to close one eye, lol).
      A 3D Blu-ray is just 2 1080p videos one above the other, separated by 50 lines. You can transmit a 3D Blu-ray stream over HDMI 1.3 (without HD sound) or 1.4.

      2D to 3D is the selling point, we must have told you that, and on the internet, there's nothing but stereo at best, no HD or anything like that.

    The PS3 serves as a 3D Blu-ray player, so if you enjoy gaming as well, you kill two birds with one stone.
    You also have the option of switching to Free, which also offers a 3D Blu-ray player.

    The 3D Blu-ray player is compatible with all 3D TVs, so don't make just any statement....

      It's a real 3D player but Blu-ray, so it's a physical medium and for sequential 3D.
      Because the Side-by-Side, it will read it as is, so I don't think there's a way for Full Side-by-Side.
