Directx game error (spooge driver)

Hello,

I have a problem with a game called "Dawn of War". I installed the game correctly and when I try to launch it, an error window pops up and tells me "Error: Spooge driver not found, please ensure that DirectX is properly installed." After that, I double-checked that DirectX 9.0b is correctly installed, and during the installation, I accepted the terms of the agreement and right after, the installer told me that DirectX is correctly installed. I have already received responses to my problem and I was advised to do a Windows update and suggested the SP2. I did this update and it still doesn't work; I'm stuck and I don't know what to do.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Well, I just installed the game for the first time, the first DAW, of course it gave me the error that you've all experienced, so I fiddled around until I found the spdx9config.txt in the drivers folder, and depending on your graphics card, mine being an Nvidia GeForce7000M, you scroll down in the .txt to the following section:

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
;
; nVidia
;
begin vendor 0x10DE

configfile 'nvidia.txt'

; disable drivers prior to version 52.16 (previous versions have quirks with directx 9 in win98)

begin version 0x0000 0x000D
allowdevice 0
end
begin subversion 0x0000 0x0009
allowdevice 0
end

begin build 0x0000 0x1459
allowdevice 0
end

At this point, you replace all the allowdevice 0 with 1, to enable the use of drivers prior to 52.16! And on Windows XP like on my PC, well, that’s enough, and boom, your game launches!

Pros: it avoids downloading patches! I say this because in Tahiti it's slow and limited in downloads!
Cons: Who knows if it works on all machines! hahaha^^

Come on, enjoy the game! And always fiddle a bit in the old-fashioned way, sometimes it works, especially with old games, makes sense!! HAHA^^

Of course, but I’ll specify it just in case, you can download them from www.nvidia.fr or www.ati.fr (be careful about the language of the OS, if it is in English, you need the English drivers).

Can you tell me what "the bone" is?
Are you talking about the game or something else?

Hello. So I also have this message but only after installing the Winter Assault and Dark Crusade add-ons. Otherwise, my game works perfectly fine on its own. That's what surprises me. Of course, I've checked that DirectX 9.0c is properly installed... If you can help us, please do...

Try the drivers for your graphics card, the latest cards like geforce8 need the very latest driver to launch the game, otherwise, it gives a spooge driver error or something like that... there you go!

On my side, I have Windows Vista + GeForce 8 with the latest driver and all the updates for Vista and DirectX installed. I don't know what to do anymore.

Just to say, I have the bug on "Dawn of War: Dark Crusade" and not on "Dawn of War" the first one.

Personally, I have Windows (also known as Windobe) Vista with a GeForce 8400 with the latest drivers (since I bought the PC recently) and the latest updates for Vista and DirectX.
The game "Dark Crusade" shows me the famous error message "error: spooge driver not found, check that DirectX is properly installed" while "Dawn of War" does not have this problem.
Could the problem be due to Vista or the fact that I am playing on a laptop?

Ok, I've installed Dark Crusade three times and nothing works... it says "Spooge driver not found. Verify that DirectX is properly installed"... well, I'm checking: EVERYTHING is perfect, it runs the few tests which work wonderfully (even too fast to see the NVidia cube rotations... could that be the problem... but who can do more can do less... right...?)
Oh, I forgot, my card is an NVidia Quadro NVS 110M (so on a laptop) and its driver is from 04/28/2007. Besides, the NVidia site doesn't offer anything newer...
One last point: my OS is in French, but the message is in English, just like the game I installed... I hope that doesn't have anything to do with it...

What more can I say... PLEASE HELP ME!!! Even though the game isn't that expensive, it would really suck not to be able to play it after all the good reviews I've heard about it!

Thanks in advance!

Hello, I have a laptop with an Nvidia GeForce 7000M/nForce 610M graphics card, running Vista Home Premium and
an AMD Turion (tm) 64X2 Mobile Technology TL -58 1.90 GHz
and when I try to launch the game it says Driver spooge not found and I've read what was written above but I didn't understand much so if someone could explain it to me in plain terms that would be great
Thanks

It's not complicated: you need to download the patches as I indicated in the link. Follow my instructions and it's all good.
After the download, you need to install it; I don't see what the problem is! ;) Ask if you have a problem.

I'm glad to know that. Do you perhaps have something to ask? Your message seems incomplete...

When I launch the game Dark Crusade, my PC displays the same (famous) message that other forum users have reported:
"System initialization failed!
Errors:
Spooge driver not found. Please check that DirectX is correctly installed."

I then downloaded the very latest version of DirectX and updated my "NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS" graphics card.
I did not modify the "spdx9_config" file by replacing "allowdevice1" with "allowdevice 0" as some suggest, because it apparently only works on certain machines.

My PC is running:
Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T7500 2.20GHz
4 GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS (up to date).

Reassure me, you're doing it on purpose... or you can't read...

I'm going to repeat it again and again: the only solution is to download patches and it has absolutely nothing to do with your configuration!!! The allowdevice thing doesn't work for everyone.

So please, reread the whole topic, go to the link that I kindly copied and pasted, and you will find the solution to your problem. You'll see this solution works for everyone and it is THE ONLY one, I repeat THE ONLY one, so thank you for reading before posting the same questions 10,000 times.

Just like that, your patch solution doesn't work for everyone, I followed your advice and it still doesn't work with this piece of crap DirectX and its cheap driver.

So, does it work or not??? If you have Dawn of War and Winter Assault. Is it possible to launch Dark Crusade with DirectX 11 on Windows 10...
