Installing XP on Compaq Presario CQ61

Hello,

I just acquired a laptop, a Compaq Presario CQ61-407EK, and I can't install Windows XP!

This PC is equipped with the free operating system: Freedos, and as soon as I turn on the PC, a menu asks me to choose a language, and when I type 1 for French or any other key, an error message appears!

I checked the BIOS, and the DVD drive is set to boot mode, but it still won't launch!

THANK YOU for taking some of your precious time to enlighten me a bit

Best regards

Configuration: Windows XP / Firefox 3.6.10

Hello, if you receive a blue screen at the beginning of the installation, disable native SATA mode from the BIOS.

Hi, there's nothing, not even a blue screen because the CD won't start!!! It just comes with FreeDOS that appears when the PC is turned on.

Have you checked that the installation CD really works! Try it on another PC to be sure.

Of course it works, it's with this same CD that I installed XP on my desktop! And I even tried with a Windows 7 CD but still nothing, the freedos says something like there's no CD driver and that there's no IDE I think.

I believe and am almost sure that it's your laptop's DVD drive that is having issues.
