Hello,
I want to reinstall my Windows XP on a COMPAQ MINI CQ10. I am booting from the Windows XP CD using an external CD drive because the small PC does not have a CD drive.
When I try to reinstall Windows, it tells me that it cannot detect my hard drive, although it is working perfectly fine. I am reinstalling my PC to fix a partition issue.
Can you help me as this is important and quite urgent?
It tells me exactly this when I press ENTER to install XP:
"the installer has recognized these devices in the computer: "none""
*To specify SCSI cards, CD-ROMs, additional special disk controllers to be used with Windows XP, including those for which you have a manufacturer's device driver disk for mass storage devices, press S.
*If you do not have any manufacturer's mass storage device driver disk, or if you do not want to specify any additional mass storage device to be used with Windows XP, press ENTER."
When I press ENTER, I cannot continue the installation; I have to restart, and I tried installing something by pressing S, but I have a long list of drivers (I assume) to choose from. Which one should I choose? Is it for my external CD drive or my hard drive?
Thank you in advance.
Configuration: Windows XP / Internet Explorer 8.0

Hi,
I simply think you have a SATA hard drive and not an IDE one; on your XP CD, there are no suitable drivers for this type of hard drive.
You still need to check if you can disable SATA mode in the BIOS to test it. If it works in IDE mode, you have two options:
1 - Retrieve the SATA RAID drivers for your motherboard and then use Nlite to create a new XP CD. Nlite allows you to add these drivers to the CD compilation. By booting from this new CD, your hard drive will be recognized. If you haven't added the correct drivers, you will get an error message. Installation will then be impossible.
2 - Leave the BIOS in compatible IDE mode; the XP installation will proceed simply as if you had a hard drive with an IDE interface.

I can't find the type of my motherboard; with EVEREST it says UNKNOWN, and I can't find which motherboard is in a
"Compaq Mini CQ10-130SF" computer.
