Hello. Having the same problem with my C4280, I did this "thing" that works (with 3 times "X") and it leaves me in awe of our friend BertMdk's discovery.
But you have to repeat this manipulation every time you use it, not a big deal but annoying. So since we are naturally demanding, perhaps someone has discovered a way to make this "thing" permanent since this post, thanks again.

At home, the printer can handle multiple pages in a single document. But otherwise, you have to perform the magic formula again for each new document or after restarting. It's better than nothing: You can use up your cartridges before buying a new one. Personally, I've gotten used to it: it's just a minor inconvenience now; I know the formula by heart...
At first, it's true that it's frustrating, especially coming from a big brand that's apparently unable to acknowledge the problem and offer a patch (at my place, printer software updates fail with Vista).
