Hello,

My problem is as follows:

I have refilled the black HP 300 XL cartridge of my HP Deskjet F4280 printer, but the ink level remains low.

Does anyone know of a process to reset the cartridge?

Hello,

"Does anyone know a way to reset the cartridge?" Unfortunately, there is no procedure to reset the HP cartridge chip.

"After refilling, it is possible that the printer recognizes this cartridge as empty and displays a message. In this case, ignore the message and your printer will work without checking ink levels.
The printer records the last three serial numbers of the cartridges that have been installed in the printer as well as the ink levels of these cartridges.
If you cannot ignore the message, your only option is to replace the HP300 cartridge with a recycled cartridge from another printer or a new one. It is currently not possible to perform a reset like with older models of HP cartridges.

Tip: the printer only records the serial number of the last three cartridges installed in the printer. If you have four HP 300 or HP300 XL cartridges, you can insert one cartridge after another until the serial number of the refilled cartridge is no longer recorded in the printer."

Come on, I no longer believe that anyone still believes in that, not even for the ink of the cartridge. However, I invite you to reread the question. The member is looking to reset their original cartridge that they filled with ink.

Printers have chip recognition; if the chip does not match, the cartridge will not work.

For others, if the level of color or black toner is low or empty, neither can be used.

Today, it's cheaper to buy a printer than to buy cartridges.

Hello,

1. The cartridges don't have a chip, and even if they did, they can be reprogrammed.

2. That's right, for the cartridges the level disappears when you do a recharge, but it seems there's a solution that I haven't exploited yet but found on a forum.
- Have multiple cartridges.
- Fill cartridge A which is recognized as empty and install it
then remove it - Put in B and put A back.

3. I'm not a militant environmentalist, but still, the 300XLs hold 12ml and cost around 30€. 12ml is nothing! My good old Lexmark had a cartridge of 45ml for 45€.

4. What's the point of having a printer if it's not to use it, or to pay less for your photocopies at self-service!

5. You also have the option of going to stores that refill them for you. Where I live, the price is still much less interesting, and it's my cartridge they refill. It’s just as easy for me to do it myself.

A note of humor here: someone just made the comparison of printer ink per liter to a fine Bordeaux.

Buy a refill kit. You can find one almost everywhere.
They consist of three or four vials with ink, and one or two syringes with a large needle.
In most kits, it clearly indicates how to refill the various cartridges.
For the 300, simply remove the sticker located on the top part of the cartridge.
Indeed, by removing the sticker, you will see several holes (I believe there are 5).
If you look closely, there will be a black mark from the initial filling, where you need to poke and inject the ink.
The color refills: same deal. By looking, you can clearly see where the colors should be injected.
TIP: It's better to make several injections of 1 cc rather than one large quantity at once. This avoids overflow and color mixing.
The needle should not be pushed in more than 1.5 cm, or else you'll pierce the pouch.

Regarding the chips, it's complete nonsense. At least for the 300.
And buying new ones every time is throwing your money out the window. Well, rather refill those from the resellers... -_-'
I've been doing this for years, and it works great (sometimes the cartridge malfunctions. At that point, of course, you need to replace it).
