Connected, but unable to display the pages. Solved/Closed

Hello,

Here's my problem. I can connect to the internet, but when I try to open any page from any site, I get "unable to display the page."

However, I can connect to IRC via Mirc without any problem. I can also connect to Outlook.

I'm also having trouble connecting to MSN Messenger. I get the error 80048820.

I'm running the MSN Messenger troubleshooter.
For the IP test, it's okay, but the gateway test fails.
I get the following message:

"Default gateway test: your gateway appears to be offline. Click the 'repair' button below to fix the setting and attempt a new connection."

When I click "repair," I get "MSN Explorer connection troubleshooter could not identify or fix the connection problem..."

Is this an Internet Explorer issue? Is it misconfigured? As you might have guessed, I don't know much about this.

Hello. Go to FILE and check if working offline is not checked; if it is, uncheck it. Also, what firewall do you have?????. See you later.

Hello samesufi,  I will check if "work offline" is checked (I'm not at home)  As for my firewall, I have Norton (it has never caused me any issues so far).

How are you connected to the internet?  You should check if the gateway IP address is correct.

I'm not home right now. But I returned earlier and the "default gateway" field is empty. Is that normal?

Otherwise, I'm connected with a Sagem Fast 908, USB (I don't know if this information is useful, but I'm providing it anyway lol).

A priori, the gateway should not be empty. Depending on your machine's IP address, you should have something like x.y.0.1 where x and y correspond to the first two digits of your IP address

For example, 192.168.0.100 -> gateway 192.168.0.1

you may need to enter the DNS server(s) from your ISP?

for that: start/run
type: cmd + enter
ipconfig /all + enter
look at the bottom of the list, DNS servers.

Hello, I am currently abroad and I have a WiFi connection in the apartment!!! I am experiencing somewhat the same problem as other people, my connection was not working and I was told that my connection was limited or nonexistent... So I disabled that error message and now the connection is established but I cannot access internet pages... Furthermore, I noticed that I do not have a default gateway and I followed the advice given but I can't add my address for this default gateway... and I really have no idea how to do it because I am really very bad in this area... I hope I've said enough for someone to help me... thank you in advance!!!

Hello everyone, Here it is, I have a problem almost identical to yours. I just changed my modem for my internet connection; I previously had a Speedtouch and now I have the Club Internet box (the problem was already present before the new modem and its arrival hasn't changed anything). All my connections are slow, for example, when I try to open a page either with Internet Explorer or with Mozilla Firefox, it takes a horrendous amount of time to load, roughly the same as it did when I was on 56k/s (I'm supposed to be at 8 meg). The link to the previous problems is that MSN Live Messenger also tells me that my default gateway is offline. I click on repair, and after a few seconds, I can access MSN as usual, but my connection is still slow. For a little info that I think may be useful, during direct downloads of fansubs (legal animated manga), my connection stops the download, it freezes, and does not resume...  I hope you can help me with my problem. Eraxos   PS: I tried, as you suggested earlier, to check that I'm not working offline (that wasn't the case), and I tried to access your cdm.exe program from the run help, but Windows cannot find any corresponding file. Hello!!!  So here it is, on Monday afternoon I left my computer at 3 PM, and when I came back at 5 PM it was impossible to open a web page, Mozilla (Msn Skype etc same.... everything is crashing, and everything is slow....)  I tried absolutely everything until 9 PM, all your tricks that only work for 10% of the people concerned, okay we need to make sure the signal is working first, but come on, that's just a phone call to your provider and it's done in 5 minutes. But a scan, and all the commands in the command prompt........it doesn't work, and I'm really not the only one saying that.  And whoever had the brilliant idea to say: Disable your firewall, or your antivirus Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!! STOP, what are these suicidal solutions?!? You must be ***!!!!! DON'T DO IT, because if like me the internet signal is confirmed, you will pick up some crap!!!  The solution is on your PC!!!!  Anyway, I have two friends who had the same problem for a week and my solution turned out to be BENEFICIAL!!!!   So  C:\WINDOWS
etwork diagnostic (So Start---> My Computer------> C:\ Drive -----> (folder) WINDOWS----->(folder) Network Diagnostic----> and click on the application: Xpnetdiag (I have XP by the way)  And follow the steps!!! It's super simple, but it works!!!! (At one point they asked me if I wanted to delete WebHancer I SAID NO  and the program told me that the problem was coming from the "Catalogs" networks or modem, and asked to restore them to their initial configuration, say yes!!!  There you go, that's it, I'm quite proud of my finding!!!!  Let me know if it works  Best regards  P.S: before: 344Ko sent/19Ko received..............Now: 11'173Ko/12'668!!!!! Magic!!!! I have the same problem. According to customer service, it's a conflict between the modem and the PC which don't always communicate. The connection is there but there is no display. If someone finds a solution...

Hello. Look in Firefox, File if you are not working offline. Then, disable your firewall for a moment. It could be a Bitdefender update that is blocking the connection. See you later.

I have 2 PCs, one running Seven and the other XP-sp1, both connected via an ADSL router.  One day, Seven gave me the same issue: blank page, DNS error and all, while XP was working as usual.  At first, I was a bit scared: launched antivirus, cleaned up, and nothing helped... it seemed strange to me, I'm not a pro, but I know a bit about it and it couldn't come from an external element like a virus or a buggy program...  I looked at my router, both lights were on, which indicates that both PCs are connected. I can understand for XP, but for Seven: huh?!!  I went to the router's root (by typing the fixed IP of my router in the web browser) I accessed the settings and strangely: Seven was in LAN/WAN mode = inactive ! °__° This is the first time I've seen that, I've had this Seven for 3 months.. who knows where it came from lol!  In any case, the problem didn’t come from a virus or serious malfunction but simply from a setting in the router that had dropped.  Everything returned to normal after the fix ^^ so if this can help some, take a look at the router side too ;-)

I have the same problem as everyone; the icon at the bottom right of my desktop tells me that I'm connected to the internet, and it even shows me the speed and signal strength, which varies (I need to specify to understand that despite the fact that it doesn't work, it manages to retrieve information!) !!! O_O ?! However, I can neither browse nor connect to MSN or IRC via mIRC... I'm connected via Wi-Fi, and another computer connected to the local network (wired) works perfectly... I don't know if it's really worth it, but after trying 6 or 7 different methods (or more), I simply turned off my antivirus (AVAST Pro) completely and the internet came back!!

If the browser is not connecting (Internet Explorer, Safari, etc.)
even though the internet connection is working (Microsoft Update is able to download updates)
then

1. Click on Start
2. Click on Run
3. Type cmd and then click OK
4. Type this in the MS-DOS command prompt: netsh winsock reset
5. Press the Enter key on your keyboard
6. Restart your computer
7. Test your internet access by launching Internet Explorer
