Hi everyone
Happy holidays first of all :-)
Can we read a DVD on a CD player? I was told it's possible with software, but I don't know the name of this software. If you know its name, please let me know.
Thanks in advance

Hello community, it’s Yacine the censored one again.
A forum is a place for free speech but even more so a place for knowledge and exchange of information, so we cannot be blamed for our ignorance; we give without hitting on others. Thus, I ask that responses with a "hurtful" connotation be filtered, thank you, because if in school every time we ask a question the teacher hits us, the national education system would turn into a torture center.

Hello everyone
Here is a solution to watch DVDs without a player... and it works !!
You don’t need to invest in DVD player software as it is possible to play DVDs with Windows Media Player. However, by default, this feature is not enabled.
Edit the registry and go to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ MediaPlayer\ Player\ Settings.
Then create a new string value by clicking on the Edit menu, then New and then String Value. Using the Rename command from the Edit menu, name it EnableDVDUI. Double click on it and set its value to yes.
Confirm, close the registry editor, and restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
Cheersssssssssss

Uh...
We still need to put the disc in the player...
We weren't talking about a "software" player (winamp, vlc, windvd...), but rather the "physical" player (the little tray that opens when you press the button)...
That said, thanks for your tip.

Yes, it's impossible! Even though a DVD looks like a CD, it's not the same system for reading it at all. The wavelength of the laser diode in a CD player is larger than that of the diode in a DVD player!
In other words: the laser beam from the CD player is way too big to read a DVD! It's like trying to engrave a picture on a coin (for example) with a jackhammer!!!
So the laser diode is different, the laser beam is different, the technology is different! Try playing a vinyl record on a CD player...
Otherwise, I think he was talking about the fact that you can play a VCD on a CD player! Not a DVD (not the same thing!)

Sorry, this software has not been invented yet, and even if it were, it wouldn’t work since the hardware would be deficient!
You may have read the article from right to left: DVD players usually know how to read CDs.

Hi,
You need to quickly go see the person who told you it was possible, I'm interested in the software too.
Because let's be honest, it's *INCOMPATIBLE*!
It's like record players could play CDs or vice versa... Just because the two formats look similar doesn't mean the technology used is the same!
See you, Blux "The idiots dare everything.

I think you are talking about the software "Deamon tools" which allows you to read ISO images of DVDs, so you don't need a DVD drive :)
As for the registry key... hum the lens can't read the DVD layer anyway... it would have been known a long time ago!! ;)

why can we read DVDs rented from video rental stores with a CD player, but we cannot read DVDs that we burn when recording a movie on TV? SOS I'm confused! THANK YOU
No, you can't read DVDs on a CD player!
Because:
DVD on a CD player: NO
CD on a DVD player: YES
It's because of the wavelength of the laser, in particular.
A CD does not require the same laser wavelength as for reading a DVD! The laser is NOT MADE FOR that.
So unless you change both the laser AND the electronics in the player... At that price, you might as well buy a DVD player ;)
Quick question: What is the minimum configuration required to read DVDs?
Have a good evening.

Hi friends!
I also learned from one of my friends that it was possible to play a DVD on a CD player using software whose name, unfortunately, I can't fully remember, started with "Virtual" +.............
For me, it was impossible, but to my great surprise, another person reassured me that it was possible but doesn't want to tell me how to proceed.
That's why I would like anyone who knows the secret to share it with all of us. Because as they say? Knowledge is not meant to be hidden but shared.
Thank you for getting back to me.

Listen, man, if you’ve found the philosopher's stone, don’t keep us waiting any longer: share your secret and come back to tell us what this program is, clever-bison! But where on earth did you hear that? Or maybe wait until April 1st next time.
A DVD cannot be read by a standard player.
A DVD can have multiple layers with the laser able to read on the surface or in depth, but how do you expect a thing that barely reads CD_RW to read the latest technology!
The tracks of a CD are not read by the microprocessor of the motherboard but by the optical controller located on the CDROM drive. Changing the software in the PC is therefore pointless!
If such software existed, it would only be software allowing to unlock a capability anticipated by the presence of specific lasers and to evolve the model through a modification of its firmware. It would therefore not be universal as you hope but limited to a model from a manufacturer.
Instead of buying this phantom software, you can find an LG 16x48 DVD drive for 49.5 euros in good shops. (like http://www.padeg.be/ or http://www.pc-euro.com)

Looking closely at how the post has evolved, one can only regret the attitude of the questioner who declares after the first response that the software exists, but he doesn't know its name, even though we just told him that it was physically impossible to do what he was asking...
Not falling into extremism might have spared him some disappointments, even if M&M reacted emotionally (in my opinion)...
As for censorship or moderation, I leave that to the moderators, whose role it is... and whom you can reach via a link at the bottom of each message if you ever find a comment that offends you...
