Footnotes too high, Word 2007

Solved

Hello,

I am writing a report in Word 2007. I've been using the same file for several weeks, and recently my footnotes are appearing higher than the bottom margin limit.

Pages without notes have a normal margin, while pages with notes have a larger bottom margin. I have taken screenshots to illustrate this, showing hidden characters and the gridline that indicates the margin limits.

There are no line return characters or any kind of breaks, and when I’m in “Draft - notes view” mode, there is nothing that indicates an additional bottom margin. I've tried adjusting various page layout and footer settings, but nothing works.

Does anyone know what might be causing this, and how to lower my footnotes??
(I need to print my report before Thursday 02/09!!)
Thank you very much!

Claire.

A quite scary yet simple problem to solve, actually.
You need to display the ruler (go to View/show the ruler)
in the margin, there will be the ruler and the lower part corresponding to the footer margin is in gray.
You need to place the cursor on the ruler where the footer begins, the cursor will turn into a double arrow pointing up and down.
Just drag it up to raise the margin above the start of the footnotes.
The result can be seen by doing a print preview (click on the magnifying glass)

Good luck!

Hello
If you have a space between the separator line and your footer note, here is the procedure in Word 2007:
1. View tab
2. "Outline" button
3. "References" tab
4. "Insert Footnote" button => a banner opens at the bottom of your page titled "Footnotes" followed by a drop-down menu displaying "All Footnotes" by default
5. Open the menu and select "Footnote Separator" => in the window below, you can then delete the extra line between the separator line and your note
6. To return to your original document: "Outline" tab -> "Close Outline" button
7. Check the layout of your footnote
and normally, that's it.

Have a good day.
