Hello,
I conducted a training yesterday on Windows concerning display properties. A hands-on student made the desktop icons disappear.
I was unable to solve the problem and couldn't reproduce it today at home.
I checked in the Desktop tab, Desktop Personalization button to ensure the icons were indeed checked, I clicked on default settings, I right-clicked on the taskbar, Properties, Start Menu tab, and made sure Classic Start Menu was checked.
In the Themes tab of the Display Properties, I selected Windows XP, in the Appearance tab, Windows XP Style.
I of course restarted the computer.
Thank you in advance for your responses,
Thierry.

Hello
No more icons on the desktop
- ctrl-alt-del
- file/new task
- type regedit.exe then enter
- the registry opens, make a backup by clicking on the registry menu "export a registry file"
- in the window that opens, select the "all" option from the "export range" frame, then give a name to the copy and click on save
to restore the registry, just double click on it
- in the left part of the screen, successively click on the small + of the lines HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windowsNT\currentversion
then click on the winlogon folder to highlight it
- in the right part of the window, look for SHELL which only contains the data explorer.exe.
to modify its content, right click on this line and, in the contextual menu, click on modify
- in the window that appears, erase the content of the text box titled "value data" and type "Explorer.exe" in its place and click ok
finally, click on view then refresh before restarting your computer

Good evening,
Perform a system restore and choose a date that corresponds to before the icons disappeared and see. -
