WINDOWS XP asms file problem

Question

Can someone help me with reinstalling WINDOWS XP? I'm getting an error message asking for the path to the ASMS file and nothing works.  THANK YOU

Hello everyone!

Well, after 2 hours of trying different topics on the net, I couldn't find a solution. (Regedit couldn't run).

Here's my solution:

Before the computer restarts and resumes the installation, REMOVE the Windows CD. It will then ask for the same thing again at the same moment. At that point, put it back in (then click OK). This action will "force" the drive to look for that damn folder... and FINALLY find it (for me).

I found this:
This file necessary for the installation of Windows is located on the CD Rom
in the I386 folder, try copying this folder to your hard drive, for
example to C:\I386\asms\
If the problem persists, you need either to find another Windows CD Rom
or possibly another CD-R drive

and this:
Symptoms
When you install Windows XP, you may receive the following error message:

[Required files]

The file 'Asms' from the Windows XP Professional CD-ROM is required. Type the
path to the file, then click OK.

Copy files from: GLOBALROOT\DEVICE\CDROM0\I386
Cause
This error message may appear if the installer cannot
communicate with the CD-ROM drive.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, use the appropriate method for your
computer.

I managed to fix it by taking the I386 folder from the original CD onto a CDRW using another computer and inserting it into the CD-ROM, and bam, there it works.

Hello, I have a problem with my computer. I'm installing Windows XP and it asks me to insert the Service Pack 3 CD. I insert it, but it tells me there is an error and it can't find the asms file. Please help me, thank you.

Good evening I had two drives on the same IDE cable, I unplugged one and restarted my PC with the XP CD in the remaining drive and the installation went smoothly Maybe this will help you

Hello,
It doesn't work for me.
I tried removing and putting the CD back... nothing.
I tried running, regedit, etc... I can't do anything.

Especially since now I'm stuck because whenever I restart, it automatically wants to go back to the installation. I just wanted to repair my XP.
