Hello,
So I’m going to share my problem which is of a rarely seen ridiculousness for a Windows software...
My Windows media player played a nasty trick on me. I usually extract the CDs I buy into my library. But recently, this function has simply become impossible. When I click on "Extract CD", I get the following error message:
“Windows Media Player cannot find the file. If you are trying to play, burn, or sync an item in your library, that item may point to a file that has been moved, renamed, or deleted.”
So I go to the options, the "Extract Music" tab, and there...

The extraction path field is empty and I cannot change it, the button doesn’t work... Furthermore, if I try to modify any setting in this tab and click "Apply" or "OK", I get another error message:
“Error
The music extraction settings could not be applied.”
In short, it’s a complete mess, my player is totally malfunctioning, and I don’t know what to do anymore. I’ve tried everything: disabling the player in Windows features and then re-enabling it, system restore, etc.
I should clarify for those who don’t know, in Seven the player is integrated into the OS and we CANNOT uninstall it.
I would like to reset the default settings of the player, I think that way I could solve my problem.
Does anyone know how I can do this, or better yet, know a way to "repair" Windows Media Player?
Thank you in advance and sorry for the length of the post ;) !
Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 3.6.8

Indeed, you need to go through:
Organize / Manage Libraries / Music
If the file path is not local to the PC and refers to an external HDD or a network machine:
e.g. \\server\etc.
you should find a corresponding link with the label "recording location ..."
Simply delete this link and Media Player will automatically take the link:
C:\User\YOUR_USER_NAME\Music
Thank you all for this good information.

It's annoying, these software programs that choose settings for you!
You'd want to throw them out the window!
