Hello,

I bought a 2.5" External HDD HXD5 from LG.
I'm having trouble detecting it on my PC running Windows XP.
I know this hard drive works because I've used it before, but my PC is struggling to detect it; there's a white light that turns on and a noise coming from inside the hard drive.

Please help me!

    Hello,
    was it noisy before?

Yes, but it's inside that it makes noise!
And when the hard drive is working, the white light blinks, but now it stays fixed.

Could it be coming from the USB ports?

I assume it is not in SATA but is connected to a USB port?

Yes, it is plugged into the USB port at the back of the tower!
I have two USB ports at the front of the tower but they don't work, and I had already tested plugging it in at the back and it worked, but I admit it cuts out from time to time.

In my opinion, you have USB port issues

You need to go to the control panel

Pfff, you really have nothing better to do, fay-control!
First learn to read before saying nonsense because I clearly specified that it was an External Hard Drive!
And now, you see, you're not useful at all, so please go have fun elsewhere!

I'm sorry, but your advice isn't helping me at all, you see!
I have a lot of humor, but this is too much and it's not funny!

Control Panel, Hardware, Device Manager, and check if there are no question marks or exclamation marks in front of the USBs.

I just checked and I have neither question marks nor exclamation points.
But I just noticed that there's a "Driver" tab; if I download the new drivers for the USB ports, it might work?

Just yes, I was about to ask you the question, so download the drivers.

It doesn't work either by downloading the drivers, or maybe I just don't know how to go about downloading them.

When you downloaded it, did you see the progress of the installation?
    Eric
PS: After the installation, did you restart your PC?

Actually, I go to the USB drive, and I go to the "Driver" tab and then "Update Driver"!
But I don't need any CD?
      Can it be done automatically?

Yes, no need for a CD, it does it by itself

And do I have to do it for all USB devices?
      I have quite a few.
