Hello everyone,
I have a laptop that I connect to an external monitor (VGA) for dual display, running Windows 7 / IE 8.0.
I often work with an application (like AutoCad or Money) open on one screen and a related dialog box for the open application on the other screen.
If I disconnect my laptop from the external monitor without moving the dialog box and application back to the laptop screen, then when I want to continue working on the application, some dialog boxes seem to open... on the disconnected screen.
Let me explain: the application freezes as if it's going behind the dialog box which, in turn, is not visible on the screen.
I've tried just about everything in the options of the programs used and in the display panel, and nothing works.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Problem solved: when the dialog box is open (and invisible), press ALT then ENTER successively / a dropdown menu appears: validate MOVE then, using the arrow keys, bring the dialog box back onto the main screen.

For me, this is not dual display (which would mean the same
display twice), but dual screen. You have two distinct displays and a desktop
that is twice as large. If you unplug one monitor on the fly, it can no longer
work; that seems obvious to me. The screen is connected to the GPU and Windows
doesn't necessarily "notice" that a monitor is missing.
It might be better to have a finer resolution, a lot of pixels, and bring everything back to a single screen. To help you out and avoid freezing:
Locate the display of those disappearing windows. At a moment when it works, of course. With the keyboard keys, you can navigate to choose a
button without the mouse. When you know what movements to make to reach "OK" or "Cancel," you can manage. Execute the key sequence and
press enter, the invisible window will close.
Another technique: click on the main window (that you see). It starts to
blink-tremble to indicate that another window is open. This selects that window. Just do Alt+F4 to close the small invisible window (to confirm, so it doesn't close the entire app).

Hi to the guys, Kisses to the girls,
Pierre-
Good evening MaenArBalch,
thank you for your contribution. In fact, I didn't specify that the display is visibly fine: my mouse doesn't go outside the area defined by the screen. I have no problem closing the invisible window (Esc or Alt F4). The misery is that I can't bring the dialog box back into focus.
