Earphone remote not working on Solved

Question

Hello,

For the past few days, when I've tried to use the remote control on my in-ear headphones (to adjust the volume, change songs, etc.), it hasn't been working on my iPod. The music plays just fine, the quality is as excellent as usual, but I can't get the mini-remote to function. The problem doesn't seem to be with the headphones or the small remote, but with the iPod Shuffle, as I've tried my headphones on another iPod, and the remote works perfectly...
Do you have a solution to suggest? Has this issue ever happened to you? Should I go to an Apple authorized service?

Hello, I know it’s been a while since the question was asked, but I hope this can help some. I had the same problem; my iPod wouldn’t detect the remote of my headphones, while they worked on another device. I searched everywhere and finally found the solution. The headphone jack hole of the iPod just needed to be cleaned a bit because dust was accumulating and therefore it couldn't touch anymore. You just need to take a toothpick and gently scratch inside to bring everything to the surface. As long as it’s not hard inside, there’s still dust. There you go.

I don't know if this can solve your problem, but I found this article about faulty 3rd generation iPod Shuffle earbuds: http://www.igeneration.fr/ipod/ipod-shuffle-apple-remplace-des-ecouteurs-defaillants-11174 Apple is offering to replace them, and it sounds oddly similar to your issue!

Thank you for your response but I don't think this applies to me. I actually believe the problem comes from the iPod since the headphones work perfectly with other iPods. Moreover, my Apple earbuds are "In-ear," which are not the same ones mentioned in your link... I think I'm going to go to an authorized Apple service center, hoping the warranty will hold...

Hello,

I've had the same problem for an hour. After going for my run and charging the iPod afterwards, the remote control is no longer working. I have sound, but I can't change tracks or adjust the volume.
Anyway, I find that with Apple there are always issues. As for me, I'm done with iPods, too many constraints and the headphones are often defective!!! Honestly, given the prices charged, it's unacceptable. Steve JOBS, get to work!!...

Thank you Fanny, that was indeed the problem for me as well. There was a lot of dust in the hole that prevented the plug from fitting properly. Once cleaned, everything is working again. Thank you +++
