How to remove the ".doc" extension

Hello,

After searching extensively on forums and not finding an answer... I am turning to you.
Here is my problem: I have a Word file linked to an Access database. Every time I do a "save as," the file title that appears in the document comes with the extension ".doc." However, I would like to remove this extension. A small clarification: I would like the masking of the extension to be independent of the file extension masking in the options.
Masking extensions is a workaround, and I know that one is never safe from a virus with a common file extension.
If someone can help me, I would greatly appreciate any advice.

NB: Some time ago, I did not encounter this issue when saving; the .doc did not appear... I am not sure what might have happened.

Oh yes, a little clarification to ensure I have been understood in my approach.
If for example, my file is named "Courrier83.doc,"
the display of the file name will show exactly the same, "Courrier83.doc." However, what I am looking to achieve is "Courrier83" without the ".doc" showing on my document.
Is this possible? (nb: my file could very well be named "courrier83.doc," but I want it to appear in the title of my Word page as "courrier83")

Thank you in advance for your responses.

I admit I didn't understand your entire message. If you simply want to hide the file extensions, here's the procedure:

Double-click on the "Computer" icon for Vista and 7 or "My Computer" for XP

From the menu bar, follow this path:

Tools \ Folder Options \ View tab

Check the box "Hide extensions for known file types."

Click OK.

Hello

Just a small clarification: for safety reasons, I would like the masking of the extension to be independent of the masking of extensions in the file options.

First of all, thank you superpat for taking the time to answer my question. And thank you scarface 72 for noticing that I wanted the extension masking not to go through "Hide extensions for known file types."
I still haven't found a solution and I'm open to any help.
Thank you for dedicating some of your time to me.
