Dolby Digital sound

Hello, I’m playing on an Xbox 360 that offers three sound types:
_stereo digital
_Dolby Digital 5.1
_Dolby Digital with WMA Pro

I have a 1080p HDTV which, of course, has two speakers, but the spec sheet mentions that it is Dolby Digital compatible.

What exactly is Dolby Digital with WMA Pro? In what format is it 5.1, stereo?

Does Dolby Digital offer only additional channels or also better quality than ordinary sound like digital stereo?

If I send a Dolby Digital 5.1 sound to my TV, what happens? Is the sound converted back to stereo? Will the sound end up the same as in digital stereo?

Which of these sound options will give me the best sound quality?

Sorry for all these dumb questions, but I don’t know anything XD, and thank you very much for your answers!! ^^

The quality is defined in resolution, whatever format we use...

For Digital WMA Pro, it’s when you play sound from your PC on the Xbox via Media Center, and you’ll try to read your sound as best as possible (http://forum.teamxbox.com/showthread.php?t=463111). In any case, here are the settings to do: If you only have the TV for sound: select Digital Stereo. If you have an AV receiver connected to the Xbox: select 5.1. If you’re playing music from your PC on the Xbox via Media Center: select Dolby Digital with WMA Pro.

    Good evening,
first of all I invite you to look on Google.

    To keep it simple:
at the beginning, there was mono -> 1 speaker
after that, stereo -> 2 speakers
then, 5.1 -> 5 speakers + 1 subwoofer. 5.1 has two types: Dolby Digital and DTS.
then, 7.1 or more -> 7 speakers + 1 subwoofer. This is called Dolby HD or DTS HD.

The further you go, the better the sound quality becomes.

I already knew the different audio formats, but I didn’t know about the resolution!
But that doesn’t answer these two questions:

What exactly is Dolby Digital with WMA Pro? In which format is it 5.1, stereo?

If I send a Dolby Digital 5.1 sound to my TV, what happens? Is the sound re-encoded to stereo? Will the final sound be the same as digital stereo? (knowing that my TV has only two speakers, of course)

If you send a 5.1 sound to your TV, the sound will be converted to 2.0.

    Hello
WMA Pro also known as WMA 10 Pro (the latest Microsoft audio format) can be:
    2.0/2.1/5.1 and 7.1 .
WMA Pro is the competitor of AAC AC3 DTS etc...

Used with HD digital films on Xbox 360 Zune or PC which are in WMVHD 720p or 1080p with WMA Pro 5.1 .

For your TV set digital stereo, because if you set 5.1 you risk not hearing the voice coming from the center, you lose the surround sound from the rear and center, you will only hear the sounds intended for the left and right speakers. After that it depends on the TVs.
