Change date/time in BIOS or Windows?

Solved

Hello,

I bought a second-hand computer with a Pentium 4 and I noticed that the date and time are not correct (January 1, 2002) and every day the date doesn't advance at all! And the time is: 6:11 PM.

Do I need to adjust it in the BIOS or through Windows? It's strange... (where normally with XP the date updates, I think)

Thanks in advance for helping me.
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 6.0

You can try to enter your BIOS to change the time but be careful not to modify anything else.

You can put the laptop on silent...

I don't agree with your ideas but I will fight for your right to express them ;)

    Hello!

Try this first on Windows: click on the time in the taskbar, a window will open, and you should be able to modify it.

    Otherwise, see here.

I did it on Windows, it works!

I even saved it in the BIOS to make sure it’s properly saved.

See you and thanks for your advice!

Uh, small nuance, it's useless to put it in the BIOS, that's what Windows does anyway.
On the other hand, if the date goes back to 2000, it might be a sign that the motherboard battery is dead.

To be sure, just turn off the PC for a few minutes and unplug it.

OK, because if it's not a good battery, is there a risk?

I have a PC from the same era, late 2001 (the same ATX case, in fact) with an MSI motherboard that suddenly "smoked." Could the battery still be good?

Otherwise, when you mention a store, what kind are you referring to?

If it's not the same, yes there is a risk.
      A computer store.

Ok, and if the battery is dead, does it change easily? And are all batteries compatible with motherboards? Does it cost a lot?

I will check that after, then I'm going to play on the PC.

These are rechargeable "button" batteries and, with a little care, they are very easy to change.
I don't know the price, but I don't think it's expensive. However, you need to make sure to get the compatible battery for your motherboard, as the size and voltage can vary. It's best to remove it, check the type, and go to a store to ask for a new one.
