Hello everyone,
Let me explain my (old) problem. :-)
Starting my PS3 early in the morning (80GB - firmware 3.0), I saw a message informing me of the arrival of a firmware update (upgrading to 3.1). Eager to discover this new version, I began the download and then the installation of the update.
And then.... Crash at 60-65%, with an error message displayed: An error occurred during the update. Restart the system and perform the update again. (8002F1F9) Time remaining 45 seconds, 44, 43, 42... (I'm really good at counting down, I think lol)
Anyway, the console restarts and starts over, crashing at 62% and again...
After three consecutive crashes, a friendly message advised me to: Contact technical support, with my PS3 ultimately completely frozen!
Great! That's exactly what I had to do.
So basic solution.... Google! And there, nothing... or almost. I did see people who had the same problem but no solution on the horizon, except sending the PS3 to customer service, or changing the motherboard (advice from customer service), and I also heard about problems with Bluetooth devices... Nothing concrete!
And then, glancing at my controllers, I realized that both were turned off (everything happens automatically starting from the update).
AND HERE IS THE SOLUTION!!!!!!!! :
Controllers must be turned on and connected to the PS3 via Bluetooth!
In any case, I think at least one, but personally I turned on both to be safe.
I often encounter wireless connection issues with the controllers, so I connected them with wires. The rest is therefore maybe partly aimed only at people in my situation.
I plugged in the controllers via USB, turned off the PS3 which was still on the final error message (by holding the power button for about ten seconds), and restarted the PS3.
At the beginning of the update, press the PS button on the controllers to connect them, then when the controller number is assigned and turned on (or blinking if the controllers are charging), unplug them one by one. Each controller should connect via Bluetooth and therefore one number should be lit. (This also resolved my Bluetooth controller connection issue)
And then, the update should finish quickly!
I apologize for the lengthy message I felt compelled to write, but having struggled online for several hours for nothing, and having had the luck to find this solution, unexpected given the discussion, or rather the silence from Sony... I wanted to try to make it so that others struggle less, because there will be others!
With that, happy gaming everyone!

I’m glad you were there otherwise I would have thrown the PS3 out the window.
How do I go about reinstalling update 1.1? They're telling me to install update 4.88 or later even after formatting the disk.
How to report a update error please
I plugged in my 2 controllers and the problem is gone.
