Messaging issue with Libertysurf address

Question

Hello,

I've been using my libertysurf address for many years, and since this afternoon, I can receive nothing. I canceled my Alice subscription a few months ago, but it had been working fine since then, both through my mail program and via webmail.
I checked the POP settings, and they're fine. The webmail works but tends to log me out after reading a few messages, telling me that the username is incorrect even though I've just logged in with that same username.
I think the maintenance for replacing the mailer, similar to Free's, hasn't brought about good results.
Are others experiencing the same issues and especially any solutions?

thank you for all this help. The complete address as an identifier worked on the webmail for my address XXX.aliceadsl.fr which I agreed to migrate to Zimbra, fed up. I don't know what that implies for now, great right?
As for the address XXX.libertysurf, nothing works, even putting the complete address in the identifier, changing pop.libertysurf.fr to pop.free.fr or even smtp.aliceadsl.fr to smtp.free.fr, nothing does. Worse, even under the webmail, access to my address is denied.

In fact, the day before yesterday or before, when I managed to access it only once under webmail (with this weird new interface) there were no messages pending.
Patience and a long time....

But can't we form a group of disgruntled users against this behavior in certain technologies (Numericable for example..)? I know, it's free, so... There must be a flaw in their discourse, or an absence of contract...??

Well, it's not reassuring, but at least I feel less alone in this situation.
Libertysurf's services have severely degraded with the successive changes in ownership, but I think they have reached their peak and will lose a lot of traffic with operations like this. Especially since I haven't received any message specifying a change in email settings.

I'm (and other users are too) still looking for a solution.

I managed to recover my Libertysurf mailbox in Gmail. However, I can't find what I had in the folders of the Libertysurf mailbox. Moreover, I can't even connect to the folders I had created. How do you access the folders through the new webmail interface? Thank you.

I have an address at libertysurf.fr for many years, and it’s true that for the past two days, the connections have been very difficult, if not impossible. I remind you that today Free and Alice are part of the same ILIAD group, and I think they want to transition us all to a Free or Alice box, so you can imagine that they will do everything to discourage the old libertysurf users. But I have decided to stand firm and keep my address at libertysurf.fr; let's all do the same!!! We should flood the commercial and technical services of Free and Alice with emails.

I tried to call the hotline without success to reach them.... I hope they will fix everything quickly, but I have very big doubts.

I think we'll have to come to terms with boycotting ALICE. The question arises about FREE's involvement in this story, as I use my Free email service due to the lack of Libertysurf (which is normally my main address). I am ready to not use any of these ISPs and to choose a classic YAHOO or GMAIL address.

Has anyone found an explanation or managed to reach someone at Alice?

The POP libertysurf still exists, even after the transition to Alice. For future users who might have this issue, here’s the solution I’ve used that works well with Mail on MAC OS X as well as with Evolution on Linux:

For incoming mail to a libertysurf address like titi.toto@libertysurf.fr, the username to configure in the POP access is:

titi.toto%libertysurf.fr
(it’s indeed a % replacing the @ here)

The port is standard 110, WITHOUT SSL security.

For outgoing mail, one can use their own ISP's (for example smtp.free.fr).
I changed my username to titi.toto%libertysurf.fr and I feel like it’s working again… note that my initial username had nothing to do with titi.toto@libertysurf.fr... but for now, titi.toto%libertysurf.fr seems to work...

Same as for papiordi92, during a moment of clarity, I was able to activate IMAP in the preferences.
A small clarification, the login is no longer prenom.nom%libertysurf.fr but prenom.nom@libertysurf.fr and as indicated by papiordi92, the IMAP server is indeed imap.free.fr

I have done several tests and I notice that sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I think you need to connect at the right time because 5 minutes apart, the behavior of the messaging system is not the same even though I don't change the settings. However, I can't access the options to switch this messaging to IMAP and the webmail is even more unreliable than the connection via Outlook.
I will give them another chance before permanently removing my Libertysurf address from the map.
Have you found a solution that works every time you open the messaging system???

it's not a big deal for me, it wasn't my main email address but it's still really bad not to warn us... I was expecting a confirmation of order in this inbox, for others it could be even more embarrassing... it's really a thuggish way of doing things. Libertysurf is down...

Hello, I am in the same situation as you. I am with Free; I created my email address in 2007, and until now I had no problem. But two months ago, I can no longer connect to Outlook 6; the following message appears: the password is not correct! I wrote to Free using the support email address they provided to users. They gave me a new address with a new password, I set it up, and it works, but what I wanted was to recover my old email address. And tonight I just realized that my old address is blocked with them. I tried to recover it, but they changed the password, so I just sent them an email, so I will wait for their response. I will keep you posted, but the question I am asking myself is how they can recover our email addresses. Can we assume that Outlook is not secure at all? I don't understand!

R E good evening, it was also my main address, I had to switch to Yahoo. I hadn’t had any email address at all, but this story made me lose two clients as I work in sales. I just did another round with Free and in principle, as they changed my passwords, they should send my passwords to my new email box. I think it should be the same for you; they must be safe and sound somewhere at their place, you should try to contact them! In any case, it makes me think that Outlook is not reliable! No, of course not, since I use email :-) The thing with the identifiers works as the guys describe, sometimes yes, sometimes no. It worked with my aliceadsl address but not with my libertysurf address. And I correct my previous message, I meant to talk about GMAIL of course.

For your information, for the past two weeks I haven't been able to download my messages in Mail (Mac) I confirm that the login must be the complete email address and as pop I used pop.aliceadsl.fr instead of libertysurf... and it works again  Good luck to everyone

But how can you say that our systems are at fault when you know - I wrote it - that I can't get the user recognized (with the full address yes) and the password. And sure, I might have made a false manipulation (or even several), but it's still strange that I didn't mess up for the address aliceadsl...? isn't it :-)  I wonder if libertysurf isn't taking advantage of this to clean up unused addresses... and since I didn't react right away, maybe... are they having trouble recovering emails that might have gone into the void too quickly...? I'm totally making that up of course...

Nathalie's remark had also crossed my mind. For the moment, there is a serious issue with the username field length; my address has 28 characters before the @ and the field can only contain 20 characters (the other characters don’t register, which wasn’t the case a few days ago, my username is not only truncated but my cursor is also stuck).  I feel like saying "hello big ears, what are you playing at, you could at least communicate" but that would be paranoia :-)

Thank you, Nathalie! Indeed, it's working now! I replaced the old login with nom@libertysurf.fr and it works. My password hasn't changed, and pop.libertysurf.fr is working as well. I have now received a message from Alice saying that my mailbox has been successfully migrated to Zimbra. I'm surprised that there hasn't been more communication from Alice regarding all these changes. I haven't received any messages on the subject. Luckily, forums exist!

Given the incompetence of the tech who answered me, who told me that I didn't even know my phone number (I told him three times that I only had my email address with Alice and no ADSL + phone contract) and that he wasn't the incompetent one, I asked to speak to a manager. Refusal!!! So I told him that I wouldn't leave it at that and that I would take the necessary steps to go much further in legal proceedings and I asked for the address to file a complaint. He gave me the address... and strangely, starting Saturday morning everything was working, I was able to recover all my emails and archived files and I received this email: For the info ... once I was able to read my emails, I saw that an email had been sent to me saying this: -------------------------- Hello,  Your mailbox had an automatic forwarding or reply. These have been removed. Also, your email box has been temporarily deactivated. No request is necessary to reactivate your mailbox: simply consulting this message indicates that the box is usable again.  Mailer-Daemon ____________________________________ And this morning, oh surprise, new interface, address migrated to Zimbra, email accessible with my usual credentials. So maybe it helps to give them a good kick with a few threats. Good luck to all those who are still waiting.

Well, it still doesn't work for me, but I couldn't spend much time on it this weekend...  I haven't called 1033 yet, didn't have time today. Another problem this morning, I received an email from my brother with his libertysurf address, but the server refuses the reply I send him. A real pleasure. I co-sign the remark of the one who spoke about the notorious inability of what we wrongly call computer scientists.  Anyway, I'm going back to it... catch you later :-)  AGTP  PS The messages you are receiving on your messaging clearly prove that there is (or has been) a serious problem and that our fun with the C... of configurations (yes, it happens to me too to get angry) are not always a unique and justified answer.  Who on this forum has correctly explained what an outgoing and incoming server is? and why change them in the event of a problem like this??? Can we interchange the outgoing and incoming servers, or with those of another access provider? I'm sure that if we took inventory of what you all have used as server addresses, we would come across some funny things? In any case, I find it shocking that we can't reason to solve the problem and only use recipes that resemble rain dances!!  PS 2] I too have lost clients since the ADSL messaging] is used for seasonal rentals in an area where supply is stronger than demand, at least off-season. I remind you that the problems arose around November 1 and 11... conducive to rentals. Can we file a complaint?

I was talking among other things about receiving a message from my brother's libertysurf account, and the libertysurf server (the other one, the receiving one probably) refusing to accept my reply to the sender's address. Following this incident, by chance, I came across an old message from my brother forwarding a message from alicadsl dated October 19, 2009, entitled "migration of the Alice platform", I submit it for your sagacity (unless I deleted it without reading it, I HAVE NOT RECEIVED SUCH A WARNING): "Subject: Migration of Alice mail platform Hello, As part of the standardization of mail hosting platforms, we are preparing to migrate the domain aliceadsl.fr to the Free infrastructure. Unfortunately, we regret to inform you that your email box francois_xavier.pirot@aliceadsl.fr cannot be migrated. Indeed, the name of this email box is not supported by our platform (address too long, unsupported characters, etc.) and we will only be able to ensure its proper functioning until November 1, 2009. We therefore invite you to use another email box and to inform your contacts as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience caused, The Alice team" That said, why does the message go one way and not the other? And don't tell me it's because they are not the same server... of course, but why do the two not accept the same characteristics??...(my brother's address had 21 characters, with a _).

Hello,  In the same situation as you, I just contacted Alice's hotline services and the response was blunt: "You did not read the message we sent you, you did not change your username and password within the specified time which contained prohibited characters (a -), so we deleted your access and your messages can no longer be recovered." No reminder message, no alert!!! And all my messages lost "without any recourse" according to my contact. This is the reward for my loyalty to Libertysurf since 2004. I don't have Free, I don't understand anything!!!! I am desperate and do not see what action to take, I will write to the Quality service but I don't really believe in it. If anyone has a lead, thank you for your cooperation.

One could always retort that as long as they have not received an acknowledgment of receipt of the message, they cannot be sure that we have indeed received it. In the first instance, I will try to follow the example of those who complain loudly on the phone. Not really believing it though. Arguing the fact that I haven't received anything (maybe lost in the spam?). In any case, a message, among so many others of advertising, sometimes gets lost. I am almost totally convinced that everything is recoverable, provided one is willing to put in the means. Is there a lawyer in the room? What means of pressure can we use?  Don't think that just because you have recovered your boxes and your messages you are not concerned, because at the next merger, the problem will arise for you again, in a way that you will not have anticipated, if we do not manage to "moralize" the suppliers and force them to take a minimum of precautions... Never despair. Having been diagnosed with a serious modern illness and undergoing treatment for a year, I speak from experience :-) I called 10 33, I bypassed their request for an ADSL phone number since I don't have one, I provided my landline number and then ended up with an operator, and our conversation was fierce and quickly blocked of course "we sent a message" "no" etc. But she didn't hang up on me. I asked for a supervisor, and I eventually got one: in the meantime, I had threatened to launch a press campaign about this suppression of my messages that she announced, to which I replied that such an attitude from a service like theirs was irresponsible, and that their email wasn’t alarming or informative enough, that their "free" service wasn’t really free, etc. etc..  I got my supervisor who still tried to pull the wool over my eyes by demonstrating to me that my alicadsl address was working (go to the zimbra platform at the address https://zimbra.aliceadsl.fr/ and fill in the name field with your username (without the @ and the rest) select the platform from the drop-down menu that follows, and type your password (he even fumbled to the point of asking me for my password to try it himself - seems like a huge mess partly because it surely changes "every day"...) )  In the end it worked, and he concluded by confirming that he understood my problem but that the libertysurf messages were no longer accessible. Exhausted, I hung up.  And then an idea struck me, I logged back onto the zimbra platform doing exactly the same thing for my libertysurf address. And something worked!! Be careful, not everything. I recovered messages that arrived since December 1st. But maybe I had accepted a zimbra migration on November 24th (one message seems to affirm this which surprises me because I thought I had refused it) just in time... Nevertheless, I could not connect from the aliceadsl.fr platform. So there’s a slight improvement!!  The technical platform supervisor assured me that my libertysurf messages were lost... he didn’t dare to say “suppressed”, he said “inaccessible”. So who to believe? Given that he didn’t even think to have me check for the presence of my libertysurf mailbox on zimbra (This probably means he wasn’t informed…).  I still hope (I’m an optimist) that little by little they will recover my old libertysurf messages and put them on zimbra. But they won’t do it if there’s no request, that’s almost certain.  Maybe by increasing the pressure we could get it? It’s not impossible that one day I’ll write to Le Monde or another newspaper... if only the illness didn’t tire me so much :-)  Good luck to the last ones still struggling and stand up for yourselves.. Sweep their arguments "it's free", "we warned you" "we suppressed everything" with common sense arguments: "I didn’t receive anything" "do you think that if I had received it, I would have bypassed?" "your message was not alarming enough" "the free service is only apparent, the ads pay for it", "you couldn't have suppressed it, that wouldn’t be serious for a responsible company..." "then change my username yourself" etc. come up with others. They are all true. I can’t promise it will work... they too adapt their responses with the experience they gain... But Free might not budge if customers don't speak up... AGTP PS Computing should never be designated as responsible. It is powerful. It is the people who design and use it who M.... We should be able to demand a lot from it. Go see the best products on the market if you don’t believe me (signed: a librarian who works in an IT department, and married to a computer science researcher!!)

Hello,  I am experiencing the same problem as many of you... but I haven't been able to recover my emails since 11/19/09! My issue does not come from the ISP. Because when I go to the Alice website, I cannot log in directly. It shows me a message like incorrect username... even though I've had the same one since 1997! as well as the password... When I click lost password, it replies "An error has occurred. Please try again later."  I have tried all the tricks mentioned above: changing from the libertysurf pop to aliceadsl, changing the blabla% to blabla@... Nothing works! I believe my problem is serious and I am starting to think that my email has been wiped from Alice's records...? I contacted Alice's hotline: incompetent.... What can I do? Thanks for your insights.

I finally managed to retrieve my emails as well, by logging in as indicated in this thread.  I was able to recover my old messages that were sorted into folders by digging through the options in Zimbra; you can find them. Be careful, it’s not intuitive.  I transferred all of them to my inbox and retrieved them in POP mode through Gmail. Folder by folder...  I have completely switched to Gmail, which is much better, and I’m pretty sure that the service will remain the same over time, or at least we will be properly notified if there are any changes. And Google isn’t likely to be bought out by a telecom operator anyway, lol.  I keep my @aliceadsl.fr addresses as "trash" and spam addresses.  Thank you for your advice and good luck.

Hello, I may be a bit late to the party, but I encountered exactly the same problems as you during the same period as you. After numerous attempts to reach the hotline, I was misled several times, believing the promises made to me that everything would be sorted out in the coming days. However, I spoke to one last technician who very clearly told me that the libertysurf.fr email accounts were simply going to be deleted. I don't think it's worth looking any further into any configuration issues... We must face the facts, we will no longer have a libertysurf address.

Hello,  I confirm that as of today, my email addresses at libertysurf.fr and aliceadsl.fr are working again with a client software installed on a PC (for my part, it's Thunderbird) using the advice given above (in 2009):  with a POP account configured as follows: server: pop.aliceadsl.fr, port: 110  with a username following these formats: firstname.lastname@aliceadsl.fr firstname.lastname@libertysurf.fr  The password is the same one used for webmail.  Moreover, access to webmail is still available today via the URL: https://webmail.aliceadsl.fr// by entering the relevant email address and then its password  Note: I also have other email addresses, with interesting webmail clients, notably at Yahoo (25 MB of attachments per message and unlimited storage) and at GMX (but Zimbra [free] is quite good too, though I haven't tested Microsoft's offerings, and this list is by no means exhaustive). All these addresses also work well in Thunderbird; and a reminder for SMTP: it needs to be the one from the internet service provider.  Looking forward to it.
