My PC is beeping and the light is red.

Question

Hello, I have a little problem.
Last night, my computer emitted regular beeping sounds and was flashing red.
I checked the peripherals, and the problem persists. Does anyone have a solution?
I think it might be the motherboard, but I'm not sure.

Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 3.5.4 Service Pack 3 Pentium IV 2.80 Ghz 1 GB of RAM

It seems to be a BIOS beep code, but you need to be precise about the beeps, as one beep can change everything:

4 short beeps: defective battery or accumulator, check the memory modules and their settings, possible motherboard replacement.

5 short beeps: defective processor, insufficient cooling, clock frequency too high; it could also be a graphics card issue.

So, subject to what you can do:

1 - remove the battery for 30 seconds (make sure the PC is turned off, unplugged from the wall, and press the on/off button once before handling anything).

2 - if there are several memory sticks, test them one by one.

3 - blow out the internal components of the PC.

They are short, then it seems to me that it rings 4 or 5 times. A pause of 2 seconds and it starts again afterwards.

just check if it’s running properly.
a good blast of air inside might help, there could be a buildup of dust behind the CPU fan.
however, what's curious is that it heats up with the panel closed, generally a PC runs hotter with the panel open because there's no more airflow.

Hi fredba.
I have the same problem, the computer was running and suddenly it turned off and is flashing red but without beeping. I blew it out, cleaned the sticks, but to no avail.
It's a Compaq Evo desktop.

When your computer emits a series of beeps,
be attentive and listen to the number of beeps emitted, then search online for the manufacturer of the motherboard (of your computer). Good luck and be clearer next time.......................YONKIO
