Convert TS file to writable DVD

Hello,
I copied a file from a (DVD Video) to the PC's hard drive in order to burn it onto another DVD.
The problem is that the file to be burned is a .TS file, and the burner doesn't accept it (Nero StartSmart).

So my question is how to convert this .TS file into another format so that I can burn it onto any DVD?
I had read on a forum several months ago that there was a site where you could convert anything into any format (a dream, right?).
Can someone help me?
Thank you and see you soon!

Hello,

To burn a movie to DVD format, you first need to create an ISO image, and then you can burn that image onto your DVD.

There are several free software options to create ISO images; you can download, for example, UltraIso here. Then, you will burn it with Nero in ISO mode.

The _TS files are the DVD format.
If you just want to make a copy of the DVD, you burn the _TS files.
I use VSO ConvertXtoDVD.

Very simple:

As you can see, it's very simple to make a copy with the _TS files.

Do you really want to convert to another format?

Good evening and thank you for your advice.
To respond to Evil Matrix, I do indeed want to convert ts files into a format readable on my standalone DVD player (mpeg or something else?)
Is this possible?
Thank you!

Hello Roxane,

The DVD format is the standard DVD (mpeg2) for standalone players that you don't need to convert. You can burn it as an ISO as is without any re-encoding necessary, thus preserving the original quality.

Hello Roxane,

EVIL MATRIX just asks you to sign up on the forum to become a member. Your name will then be in blue. This gives you some advantages, such as being able to access forums like the "Members' Café", but also being able to chat via PM (Private Message) with other members.
This offers greater freedom of action and tone as only the two people see this discussion.

The registration is here: http://www.commentcamarche.net/communaute/inscription.php3
Then, you will receive an email in your inbox at your email address, to which you will reply.

Best regards

Well, despite my registration, will my own email address remain unknown to the other members?
Thank you all so much for your answers, but I'll respond to you tomorrow
I have to leave you because tomorrow we need to get up, so good night little ones, sweet dreams

EVIL MMATRIX, to be honest, I don't really understand what you expect with so much insistence from this user who simply came to ask for help to burn their DVD. So it seems like they owe you something just for coming to this forum.

Unless I'm completely off base, I find it hard to understand this obsession and their repeated requests against their will. Moreover, their problem doesn't require any software purchase to be resolved; they just need to create an ISO image of their movie in DVD format (there are plenty of free software options for that) to be able to play it on their home player, and it's very easy to do.

Honestly, I don't see the connection at all.

Good evening Aloes

I must say that I also don’t understand why Evil Matrix is forcing me to register to give me the name of the expected software.
Thank you for understanding me and for "defending" me at the same time (if I may say so)
But there's no hard feelings towards Evil Matrix, I'm sure he’s not... mean!
Kisses and see you later

Good evening
He wanted to send you a software via PM (private messaging)
Help on CCM should be done in plain sight, help via PM or email is against the rules.
It's all the more stupid since the software in question is available for download on CCM:
http://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/telecharger-34063071-convertxtodvd
He just needed to share this link, and there would have been no problem..

Hello Roxane
I'm not making any proposals, I'm just giving you the information that Evil Matrix was trying to convey to you in a private message
That's why he insisted that you sign up...
Note: I hadn't realized it was paid.... In fact, he wanted to share a crack with you...
And that's definitely against the rules....

Hello baladur13,

Thank you for getting things in order.
That's exactly it, he was offering cracks left and right with a lot of insistence.

Hello Roxane,

What is the size of what you copied to the hard drive of your computer?
If the size is less than or equal to 4.35 GB, then a simple disk copy should be enough. I think Nero, even in its light version, can do that.
On the other hand, if it's larger than 4.35 GB and you don't have a DVD DL (dual layer), then we'll need to do it differently.

In what "format" do you want to have your movie afterwards?
You have at least two choices, either you keep your DVD as it is, with the menus, bonuses, and everything else, or you convert it, for example, to AVI with the DivX or XviD codec, among others. In the latter case, you'll need a DivX-compatible standalone DVD player to watch the movie.

aloes told you to create an ISO Image of your files to keep your DVD-Video in that format. The Disk Image file is the same as your two AUDIO_TS folders which is empty and VIDEO-TS containing IFO, BUP, and VOB files.

I will suggest a similar method, there are others, but in the end, it will come down to the same thing.

Download DVD Shrink and ImgBurn and then install both software. DVD Shrink can compress, if necessary, a DVD-Video while keeping its structure, that is to say, the interactive menu if you want.
With DVD Shrink, press the "Backup!" button and then choose Image ISO. The file will be written to the hard drive and will have a default size of about 4.35 GB, so make sure you have enough free space on your computer to carry out this operation.
Then, you burn this ISO file with the ImgBurn software.
There you go, it's fairly simple if it works ;)

But if you want to convert your DVD to an AVI file, playable on a standalone player, you'll need to use software capable of making that manipulation. There are many such software, which are more or less complicated at first glance. I would suggest trying HandBrake, Dr DivX, FairUse, or AutoGordianKnot (I’m not familiar with it) among other software. There are tutorials (user guides online) available for each of these programs, do a Google search to find them if you wish.

Lastly, with Nero, do you have an option to create a DVD-Video with NeroExpress? If not, then you go for a data DVD and add the two folders AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS along with all their contents. In principle, the result should be the same.

But since we are never certain of what we are doing, I advise you to first burn on rewritable DVDs, if you have any, to see if it works or not.

Best regards

Good evening Ziggourat
and thank you for your multiple tips, that’s very nice.
I tried to burn the DVD in question with Nero 3 on a DVD RW by clicking on "create a DVD Video".
The burning went well except that, in the end, I only had images and no sound.
I tried to burn using the "copy a DVD" option and the software asked me to do a simulation before the final burn: I inserted a DVD RW into the PC's burner, but it told me that this type of disc does not allow for a simulation.
So, I don't really have "trust" in Nero.
As for the format of the file to convert, I would like a format that would allow me to read the DVD on the standalone DVD player, be able to burn the DVD on the hard disk of the standalone player, and finally be able to read this DVD on PC.
What format do you recommend?
Thank you and see you soon.

Hello ziggurat
Actually, I already had Free Video Converter on my PC but not the latest version: with this version, I couldn't add files.
So that's why I asked for help
I would indeed like to keep the original DVD as it is.
I downloaded Fair Use as you suggested, but I haven't tried it yet.
Regarding this, can we convert TS files to AVI or DivX files?
Sorry if I'm messing up
In the meantime, thank you for taking care of me!
Have a great day
Kisses and talk to you later

Good evening Roxane,

Yes, I did see the "harassment". But no, you are absolutely not required to register, it's completely voluntary and it's up to each person whether they want to do it or not, and no one has the right to hold others accountable for that.

For the next steps, you can always follow Ziggourat's valuable advice to create your ISO image. He is a very great professional full of respect.

Sorry for the length of my messages, but that's just how I do things. If it bothers you, let me know, and I'll try to be shorter.
To aloes, you're always welcome to lend your assistance; your advice is both wise and very educational ;)

To ensure you can read it everywhere, the DVD-Video format seems suitable. Commercial DVDs you buy or rent are in this format, as you noticed when you copied your DVD to the computer.

It's a good initiative that you decided to first burn on a DVD RW ;)

Nero 3, I believe you're referring to NeroVision 3; there's no need to go through that. This program is what’s called an authoring application. It’s used, for example, to convert an AVI file into DVD-Video. However, you already have the files corresponding to the DVD-Video.
Moreover, if that's the application you have, then you must have Nero version 6. It's a very good software, and generally quite reliable.

The only thing you have to do is check the compatibility and size of what you're going to burn. Since I assume it's for a 4.7 GB DVD (actual capacity of 4.38), if your file size is larger, you'll need to compress it. DVD Shrink is there to perform that operation.
If the size is less than or equal to 4.35 GB, you proceed the same way since you don't trust Nero.
That is to say --> Backup: ISO image --> Burn this file with ImgBurn.

But if you want to give it a try, it's risk-free with the DVD RW you’re using; so, you can go through Burn a DVD-Video with NeroBurningROM or NeroExpress (NeroStartSmart --> Videos/Images --> DVD-Video Files). Then, you add the files contained in the VIDEO_TS folder, and they will automatically be placed in the red VIDEO_TS folder of the application.

See you later
PS: CCM is one of the few forums where you can ask for help without having to register. This is a desire expressed by the site's creator from the very beginning. The goal of CCM is primarily mutual assistance and the sharing of knowledge and skills of everyone.

OK received 5/5
Maybe someone can help me
I downloaded a software Free Video Converter: in the section for "input files" intended to be converted, I click on "browse" and when I select the TS file, I cannot "transport" it to the conversion area.
I am just told to open it
Thank you for your help
Have a nice day

Hi,

Why did you download this software?
What are you trying to do?

I thought you wanted to keep your movie in DVD-Video format, that is to say in the same format as the original.

Anyway, with Free Video Converter, when you click on Add Files, in File type put "All Files" to see the relatively large VOB files, as they contain both the video and audio. This way you will be able to add them.
After that, since I don't know your intentions, I can't help you right now with the settings to choose.

But if you want to convert your entire movie into a file like AVI (with the DivX or XviD codec), this software is not the most suitable for doing that. Indeed, I don't believe you can join the files you convert. Therefore, you risk ending up with a movie in 2, 3, 4 or more pieces.

Catch you later!

Hello Roxane,

I probably explained poorly because you don't seem to have understood, unless you also want to do something else. In any case, let's finish one problem before tackling the second.

1) Copying the original DVD:
"I indeed want to keep the original DVD as it is."

To do this, use DVD Shrink to create an ISO Image of your DVD-Video project. You then burn this ISO file with ImgBurn. See how this software works:
The software to burn from this animated tutorial is DVD Decrypter, which is no longer developed. ImgBurn, which I suggest you use, is its updated version
- https://www.commentcamarche.net/faq/5232-copier-un-dvd-video-ripper
- http://www.trad-fr.com/Tuto/ISO_Daemon.htm
- others

You don't need to use any other software than these two to keep your movie in DVD-Video format like the original.

If you've already done this, then we can move on to the other concern ;)
But let us know where you stand because I'm not sure I'm following anymore?

2) Converting DVD-Video to AVI (DivX or XviD):
Other software only serves you if you want to convert your movie, which doesn't seem to be your case in your initial request. But we can also do it if you want.
To use FairUse, the ISO Image will be useful anyway, so you need to create it. This software in its free version only allows you to make files of 700 MB, which is often the normal size of an AVI file.
Don't install it right away, as it contains adware spyware, but it's something that's not dangerous, it's just better to get rid of it.
So, the file to delete is FairUseWizardUpdate.exe (Ad-Squared) found in the software's installation folder. See this message from Judex HERE.

Personally, nowadays I would rather favor software like HandBrake or VirtualDub, but it's up to you which one you want to choose. FairUse remains good software. On the tutorials-animés site, there's also the method with GordianKnot. For Dr DivX, which is also very good, check these explanations by polov on the Micro-Hebdo site.

A+
For your information, the version of Free Video Converter is 2.0, which means it's an old version, as the publisher's policy has changed, and some options have become paid :(
