Hello,
I would like to know how to turn a CD-R (where there is an AVI file) into a DVD. Because I want to play the CD-R on my DVD player.

Thank you
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

If I didn't understand anything, it's either because I'm stupid or because you're formulating your request poorly!
In principle, standalone DVD players are capable of reading CDs, but there are rare occasions when this is not the case.

What type of disk do you want to burn: CD (700 MB) or DVD (4.7 GB)?
Is your standalone DVD player compatible with DivX or not?

What do you specifically want to do: convert a video file to DVD-Video, convert your movie into a "format" compatible with your standalone DVD player, or something else?

See you later

Hi!

It doesn't work like that, it all depends on whether your DVD player reads CD-Rs and the .avi format... that's what you're dependent on, you see?

Yes, it reads .avi files, but what I mean is that I can read a CD-R on a DVD player.

It also depends on your DVD player. You should find that in its manual. Otherwise, do a test; a CD-R doesn't cost much...

Hello Marcer,

You need to use a free or paid authoring software to convert any video file into DVD Video.
Check the list I compiled here, to which I add this free software AVStoDVD that I am not familiar with.

Personally, I mainly use NeroVision (paid) and DVD Flick, but you can try others.

On the other hand, if you have a DivX-compatible standalone DVD player, it is probably a codec issue. Quickly, you need to use a format conversion software to make it readable by your player. You have, among others, SUPER, MediaCoder, Free Video Converter, QuickMediaConverter, PocketDivXEncoder, or even VirtualDub for example.
Check this site where you can find animated tutorials for various software: http://www.tutoriels-animes.com/traitement-video.html

Sincerely

It's not what I mean, it's about returning a CD-R DVD, got it? But where this CD has already been burned.

hi
a CD and a DVD are not the same thing
you can't turn a car into a semi-truck okay
so either your home player plays both DVDs and CDs
in principle yes
but you can't magically convert a CD into a DVD
see you+

Alright, but what format can your home DVD player read?
You need to provide as many details as possible to hope for adequate assistance.
It’s unnecessary to send PMs to let us know you’ve replied, as Strik-Strak said; we know.
Everyone who helps does so voluntarily, and they also have a life outside of CCM, just like I do.
I thought from some of your responses that I understood your DVD player is DivX compatible since you mentioned it reads AVI (message n° 2).

So, to move forward, what happens when you try to play your burned CD with your video in AVI format on it?
Do you at least get sound?

On the other hand, what is the video codec of your file?
To find out, use small utilities like MediaInfo, GSpot, or VidéoInspector, for example, to determine it.
A tutorial for MediaInfo: http://www.tutoriels-animes.com/identifier-format-video.html
Where to find information on GSpot, by me: http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/9589/gspotv270a00agu0.jpg
This is so I can try to see what might be going wrong. Thank you

If your player is not compatible with DivX, then you will need to make either a VCD (Video CD), a SVCD (Super Video CD), or a DVD-Video (DVD comparable to commercial ones). All these formats should be readable by DVD players that are not DivX compatible, in principle. The VCD uses the MPEG-1 codec, and the SVCD and DVD-Video are in MPEG-2.

- For the first two, you often need to use paid authoring software. However, there are also free solutions, but I can't help you with that as I've never tried using them. Do some research on the internet to know how to proceed if you want to use this format.
- For DVD-Videos, which have their characteristics and this structure, you can look at the non-exhaustive list of software I compiled in this message, to which I add AVStoDVD, which I am not familiar with.
A DVD-Video is burned onto a DVD.

Personally, I use the NeroVision application, which is part of the Nero suite (it’s paid), or DVD Flick. Some prefer ConvertXtoDVD or DVDCoach, so you should try different software to see which one works best for you if you want.

Note: I already mentioned this solution during my first intervention (message 6) in your discussion. If this solution does not suit you, I do not understand what you want to do. Therefore, you need to explain better what you want; otherwise, I won’t be able to help you, if I can.

I also recommend, if you can, to first burn onto CD/DVD RW rewritable discs to see if it works for you.

A+
