Hello,
I installed a Livebox on Saturday, and since then I've been pulling my hair out: I have an internet connection without any problems during the day, but in the evening around 8 PM, I systematically lose it. Yet I had internet with Free for 5 years, and it worked perfectly. I wanted to change my ISP, but I'm kicking myself!!!
Does anyone know what could be causing this problem?

Difficult to say, some time ago, I had the same random disconnections and always between 19 and 20K. I called Orange and they tested my internal line which was oxidized. Why always at the same time, there may be a parameter like humidity, or another device that starts at that hour, we can't know

Same story last night: at 7:55 PM I had internet, at 8:05 PM I no longer had it, and it didn't come back later in the evening... I also tried plugging my livebox directly into the wall socket (with the ADSL filter), without any extension, but the red synchronization light kept blinking... I can still make phone calls without any problems, so the internal line isn't corroded, right???
Furthermore, upon reflection, I don't think it's a parental control settings issue because even with the computer TURNED OFF, it keeps blinking.
Help!

It depends on which line you're talking about. If it's the analog line (the one from France Telecom), the phone can work even if it's slightly oxidized. However, ADSL can't handle any oxidation on the line.
So, if it's the Internet phone (the one connected to the Livebox) that works, despite the blinking @ light, then it's the Livebox that has a problem.
As I mentioned, the simplest thing is to call Orange for a line or Livebox test.

Sorry for not doing more. But keep us updated, and if there's a resolution, it will make it easier to help similar cases.

I have exactly the same problem for a month; I've been with the Livebox for a year, I have television via ADSL with Canal+ Canal Sat. I'm at 5 megabytes. Every evening between 6 and 10 PM (it varies, but most often it's 7:45-8 PM), my Livebox gets desynchronized and comes back in the morning between 7 and 9 AM (sometimes earlier, but I'm not sure, I'm asleep.
There have been three exceptions: Once, the Livebox disconnected around 9:30 PM only, once (this week) it disconnected at 10:30 PM, and once, (last Thursday) it disconnected for two minutes at 8:37 PM and reconnected almost immediately and presumably worked all night.
So, Orange came twice, they swapped some cables in the basement, suggested that the difference in speed between the basement of the building and my apartment might be the problem, and that the telephone cable from the basement to the apartment would need to be changed but that would require significant work since all the cables apparently go through the same conduit.
They also suggested that my being a bit limited in terms of speed causes CanalSat and even ADSL television to possibly trigger the disconnections. Or that someone in the building is using something during the times it disconnects. They also checked the outside and didn't change anything, the problem remains the same.
I have a theory, but it's very difficult to resolve if that's the case: the public lighting in the surrounding area. I've searched online, and others are in the same situation. Let me explain. This has been going on for a month, at the end of summer, the beginning of the turning on of the streetlights in the evening >>> disconnection. They turn off in the morning >>> reconnection.
I brought up my theory with Orange but they don't really believe it. For it to be true, my ADSL line would need to be overhead, but that's not my case. But personally, I believe it strongly.
Moreover, I can easily criticize the theories proposed by Orange:
- Problem of speed difference basement/apartment and electrical interference: If speed is the cause, why do I not have issues during the day?
- Unsubscribing from television and Canal: If it were a problem, by the same logic, I would have poor reception during the day and especially I would have had issues for much longer.
The truth is that Orange is lost on this and they don't know what to do.
I plan to unsubscribe from television to see, starting next week, but I'm sure it won't change anything. There you go. Any opinions? Because I think about switching providers (if it's the public lighting, I'm in for the long haul, have to write to Orange's headquarters, contact the road department, it could take months,...) So, actually going with Free might be a solution (+ speed), but if their connections are the same, the problem will remain the same. Any ideas? Any technicians among you? I'm out of ideas.

Just to keep you updated: I had three phone conversations with Orange advisors (I asked them to call me back because I'm not a millionaire!). They tested my outside line: there are no issues! An Orange technician will come to my house on Tuesday to take a look. There will probably be some charges, but I will request reimbursement from Orange (I have guarantees for that) ... I will keep you posted.
Oh, I almost forgot: I tested my Livebox at a friend's place, and it works perfectly.

I have a friend who had the same problem; he noticed that exactly when the streetlights turned on, he lost his connection, and it's not a coincidence after noticing the same thing every night for about twenty days. Furthermore, Orange was never able to resolve his issue, so he decided to switch operators and go to Free, and since then, miraculously, he has had no problems at all. That's really terrible; it's like if you have Free, you get it all figured out!!!!!
I didn't know that street lighting could cause noise on the ADSL line. I think the phone lines on your street are above ground and not underground.
But thank you for keeping us informed

Hello!
Good news! For about a week now, it's working again. But what a hassle. After Orange had completely abandoned me, I called again and I got a fantastic guy who, by chance, had an experienced technician next to him. He agrees with me, it can't be the TV. So he checked the lamp connections. But first, he removed the television to test it. With 8 meg instead of 5, it worked that very evening. Later on, he called me back and told me that with the new connection (two ground lines were overlapping mine and causing a surge from... the lighting. The problem is that since the Livebox started working again before he reapplied the connection, he doesn't know which of the two solutions is the right one, and then to reconnect the TV to check if that's it could cause the box to trip again. So...
But for him, if it is the TV, that's never seen before, and according to him, it only resolved the problem by bypassing it. Like me, he thinks it can't be the TV otherwise I would always have had problems, and also during the day.
So now I'm going to write a letter to Orange to request reimbursement for my mobile calls to customer service, then the first month of my 3G dongle that I bought to work around the problem, as well as the many calls from my landline to compensate for my mobile plan overage.
My line remains under surveillance until the 31st.

HURRAY! IT WORKS! YEP YEP YEP!
It's 10:30 PM, I just got home and I see that I have internet. It's nice, I haven't surfed the internet at night for over a month (from 9/26 to 10/1, my line was under construction because I was switching from Free to Orange, so no internet at all; from 10/1, the internet worked during the day but not at night after 8 PM).
The technician who helped me out was extremely skilled and knew his field inside and out!
Smart: indeed the phone line is overhead on my street, I didn't know that street lighting could have that effect...
Thanks again to smart, jackisback and zpoupette for taking the time for me...

The Orange guy:
- removed 1 capacitor from the wall box (in the electrical cabinet). It was used before, but it’s no longer useful, it causes congestion
- removed the ringtone return wires (they were used before when you wanted to install multiple ringtones in the house (now, 1 ringtone = 1 phone)
=> his device measured almost no more errors (whereas it measured about twenty in 2 minutes before that)
He thinks that because there is now a lot of bandwidth passing through (TV + internet), the slightest "noise" possibly due to the street lighting or something else was generating these intermittent cutouts (previously with Free, I had no issues because the line was less stressed as I didn't have TV).
I am full of hope: it’s 6:30 PM and my connection is working... (yesterday at this time it had cut out)
