Hello,
Here's my problem, it's not really my problem but my girlfriend's who can no longer access the internet. When she started her computer, the Windows Vista theme was gone, and it was a theme like Windows 98... Then when she plays a movie, Windows Media launches a bit slowly but there's no sound... in the devices, it says this device is working properly. I told her to do a system restore, but when she gets to the restore page, there is an error message (before she can choose the disk to restore) the message is: "The VSS service used by System Restore is not functioning. For more information, check the event log (0x80001202)." I thought of checking the list of services to activate it, but it's not there... so I told her to start in safe mode and try the restore but... same problem! She is in another city 1 hour and 30 minutes away from me and can't back up all her work data and everything she absolutely needs! I really need your help please!
Thanks in advance for your help!

Look in the system event log.
Start\Run\
Type compmgmt.msc and hit OK
Expand Event Viewer\Windows Logs\System\
Locate the most recent error messages marked with a red dot.
Right-click on them.
Then select Event Properties.
This way, you can know the source of the failure.

Hello, I did as you explained, but how do we fix the errors?

I also have a backup issue and I'm trying to fix it. How do we correct events of error type?
Hello!
The problem is solved! The Windows log said that it was simply necessary to change the startup mode! Thanks for your help! See you later!

Yes, I did it like that to access system restore, but when I click on it, the error message appears and I can't start the restore.
I have a similar problem: when I go into Computer Management, here’s the explanation I get, but I don’t know what to do:
The default permission settings of the computer do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM server application with CLSID
{89115307-8248-448F-ADA0-F3F3718A9B2A}
to the NT AUTHORITY\SERVICE LOCAL SID of the user (S-1-5-19) from the address LocalHost (using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.
How to modify the Component Services administrative tool?
Thanks in advance.

"The VSS service used by the system restore does not work. For more information, check the event log (0x80001202)"
Thank you for this response! I will try it out tonight! I browsed a few pages on Google about this and I found a link that mentioned Carbonite... I know that it launches at each startup. Could the problem be coming from there? Thank you for your help, I'll keep you updated!
Hello.
There are three types of restoration: there's the full partition restoration
which is usually saved on CDs/DVDs, there's the factory partition
which is fixed on the hard drive, and finally there's the
system files and registry restoration which are also on the hard drive
(provided that the backup is enabled).
Restoring system files does not affect documents,
images, databases, or anything else; as its name indicates, it
only concerns these files. Click on Start, then in Search, type
restore
And at the top click on System Restore, then choose a date
just before the issue occurred.
