keyboard issue with the "alt gr" key Solved

Question

Hello everyone,

Here, I'm writing on behalf of a friend who has a problem with his "alt gr" key. When he presses it and tries to type the at sign, a sound appears instead of the at sign, the same goes for the other keys using "alt gr".
I would like to know what to do to unlock this key.
So for the setup, I'm sorry, I don't know it; I just know he works on Windows ME.

I just solved a weird issue on my laptop (Windows 8).
I couldn't get @ with AltGr + 2 (Belgian keyboard); I had to use AltGr + 0
I looked in Languages and noticed that I had 2 French languages installed: Belgian French and France French. I removed the latter and everything is back to normal.

Hi! You can also replace AltGr with Ctrl + Alt simultaneously if it bothers you...  or here you go >>> @  do a copy/paste ;o)

Ciao, I had this problem because the default language was US English (and they don't know the Alt Gr key) I just had to switch to French for it to work again. (control panel -> regional and language settings language tab)

I had the same problem with continuous selection in the explorer (if I select the 3rd item, the first 2 are also selected). To return to normal functionality, I pressed Ctrl (the left one, I’m not sure if that’s important, but I’m specifying it anyway) and everything went back to normal.

I hope this helps more than one person because doing the manipulations mentioned above can quickly become annoying.

Bonjour,
Problem solved by this method as well (under Windows 7).
The problem did appear (not possible to get characters ~#{[|'\^@]} by pressing the AltGr and the appropriate key simultaneously) after having added EN in the list of supported languages and selected FR by default (and French keyboard for both).
As for "craq", I did solve my problem by selecting again "français" as display language.
Control Panel (classic view) -> Clock, Language and Region -> Region and Language -> Change display language -> select again "français" as display language (even if option already displayed) -> Click on "Apply" button. The system asks to close the session. Confirm.
After login, the AltGr key was operational again.
It is in principle not obvious to link display language with keyboard. Hence this comment.
This solution is not universal as per numerous threads on various forums talking about this problem. With same effect, origins differ, as for instance a conflict of peripheral drivers.

Check that your keyboard is not set to QWERTY input! If it is, press Shift + Alt to switch to AZERTY input!

Hello there! I have this problem too, and I just noticed the sounds you see as well. And I've realized that these sounds are the voices from ClownFish!! If you're using this software or a similar one, that's where the problem comes from! Uninstall this software that allows you to change your voice, and that's it!

After a long search, for me it was: device manager keyboard it was in "standard Ps2 99 keys" something like that changed to "extended ps2" by updating the driver and it works!!!!!!!!!!

If Alt Gr + one of the characters ~#{[|`\^@]}¤ tilde, hash, left brace, left bracket, grave accent, backslash, circumflex accent, at sign, right bracket, right brace and the character "¤" U+00A4 ISOnum (164) or curren ¤ (HTML-code);

does not activate the mentioned character,

or if Ctrl + Alt does not produce the character,

01 Start the task manager
02 In the Startup tab, click on the Properties of Google Chrome
03 In the Compatibility tab run Run the compatibility troubleshooter
04 Click on Try recommended settings
05 Click on Test the program
06 If the Utility asks the question, respond Yes, save these settings for the program
07 The utility gives its report
08 The characters can be typed again
