The Alt Gr key is not working on my keyboard. Solved

Hello, My Alt Gr key is no longer working and it's not a hardware issue since the same happens with the on-screen keyboard.  Thank you for your helpConfiguration: Windows Vista Firefox 3.0.6

Press the ALT key (not ALT GR) and keep it pressed while entering on the numeric keyboard: 64 (enter). If the @
appears, it means that your PC or keyboard configuration is not the issue, but that the keyboard itself is indeed causing this problem.

Otherwise, to replace the AltGr key, simultaneously press the Ctrl + Alt Gr keys or Shift + Alt Gr ...

I had this problem and I couldn't find any solution that could help me on the web (that's rare nowadays).
But, being convinced that the issue wasn't hardware-related, I looked into it myself.

For me, the problem was that I was using a Razer BlackWidow Ultimate keyboard and that the ALT-GR key, combined with the FN key (right next to it), allows you to record macros (key combinations).
Anyway, accidentally, I had reprogrammed the function of the ALT GR key.
By going into the Razer BlackWidow configuration program, I was able to cancel the reprogramming.

I hope this can help others.

I have the same problem, but it works again if I stop VirtualBox; it's definitely VirtualBox that is the cause.

Hello,

I just had the same problem; the real solution for me was to add an English keyboard.

"Control Panel\Clock, Language, and Region\Change keyboards or other input methods"

You click on "Change keyboards" if you only have the French keyboard, then click "Add" and select ENGLISH (United Kingdom), apply, and then click "OK".

Then press ALT + SHIFT to switch between keyboards (switch back to FR, it should display next to the clock in the bottom right) (if it doesn't, request it to be displayed in the previous settings under the "Language Bar" tab).

If you don’t want to keep this English keyboard, go back to the menu to remove it, and Alt Gr will continue to work ;) the proof for me "~: ~#{[|'\^@]}"

THE SOLUTION ^^    It's very simple, you have to know that the keys change depending on the type of keyboard, AZERTY or QWERTY... if you're in EN (English) or another, your keyboard behaves like a QWERTY and therefore: the ALT GR key is in a different place.  **** change your keyboard language to FR (from the bottom on the bar -- the little button should display FR instead of EN... and it should work... so don't venture into folders and settings... ^^ I hope I helped you... see you soon!

At home, I was using VirtualBox

I went to settings (File-Settings) and then immediately closed the window
Then I went to an already open machine and clicked on the arrow

Hello, I had the same problem, unable to type @ or €, all the keys that required "alt gr". At first, I thought there was some dirt stuck under the key, and I was really persistent with it!!! Until I opened a word processor and tried that famous key, which worked perfectly. I searched, without success, on forums to find a solution. I then looked in the settings of Google Chrome, and there I saw that some Google plugins were incompatible with certain software like "Silverlight". I then uninstalled Google Chrome and haven't had any issues since. I'm going to try reinstalling Google (maybe a bad update). Otherwise, for those who have trouble typing @, alt 0064 works well.

For my part, I had the same problem, all my bottom and top keys were no longer working (alt, fn, ctrl, escape, delete, print screen, etc.) and I found the issue, when you press and hold the right shift key, it activates Filter Keys and locks your keyboard. To unlock it, you have to do the same, hold down the right shift for 10 seconds. The PC will turn off, you turn it back on and magic, the keys work again!
It was just the keyboard that was locked!
