Hello,

I have a 128MB USB drive, when I am at the office it works normally, but at home it is not detected, just like when I connect my PDA to my PC, it is no longer recognized (as my PC used to recognize my PDA and USB drive before)
I can't say if I've made a mistake somewhere.

Please help me.

You just need to do the following:
1 - properly shut down the PC,
2 - unplug the power cord supplying the PC,
3 - press and hold the power button of the PC for at least 30 seconds,
4 - plug the PC back in and restart it.

This drains the static energy from the tower!!

Check in Control Panel, System, Device Manager that your USB ports are properly recognized and that there are no conflicts. If there are any, reinstall the correct drivers!

As a nostalgic old man of arcade pinball machines, a former Atari user (from Pong to Calamus and Cubase...), I confess today my feeling of horror in front of USB tech that wants to be more than ever P'nPlay... a kind of "je ne sais quoi" about this fragile 8-pin connector prompts me to trust it almost blindly... are we really at the point where we even have to tinker with taboo things like: LOCAL host/USB forbidden/users lost/makePCIhost232/forget%... this thread has nothing relevant, I'm just giving a funny nod... I have assembled a new one with an ANTEC P180 case and an M2N SLI Deluxe motherboard. My USB ports are no longer working and I get the message: unrecognized device, the USB port has malfunctioned under Windows...

Additionally, I noticed that it shows 10 USB ports when I don't actually have that many.
Where is the problem? Am I going to "hardware" and uninstalling all the USB devices/concentrators/ports that are listed there?

Okay, problem solved. I had 10 USB ports because my motherboard can support that many. My USB ports weren't recognizing any devices because my Windows XP didn't have service packs 1 and 2, which include the necessary USB drivers to support the USB 2.0 standard... Apparently, my motherboard didn't even want to use the USB ports as 1.0...

Hello, I have a problem, I have a Sony Cybershot DSC S90 digital camera.
It was working really well, and now for some time when I plug it into the USB port,
nothing happens anymore. The little window that usually comes up to read the photos

Many people seem to be having USB problems, and so do I! I have a Palm that was working perfectly with a floppy and a 6-in-1 card reader that was doing just fine before... I connected a Creative MuVo reader once and since then, it's a mess! Nothing works anymore, my Palm doesn't sync anymore and my card reader is no longer in the list (and it’s not a drive letter assignment error f:..g:...h:....)

All the answers I've found talk about going to the manager and updating the yellow question marks..... I'm not that much of a novice! My problem is much deeper than that... no updates possible, everything is OK.

I’ve uninstalled the USB hubs, rebooted, disabled the USB ports in the BIOS, rebooted, uninstalled all the Palm software or other that was supposed to work with USB.... rebooted, reactivated the USB in the BIOS..... XP recognizes the new hardware, installs.... but the card reader is still not there.....

I’ve been dealing with this issue for 3 months now, Palm has nothing intelligent to say to me, Creative doesn't understand the problem and tells me to contact Palm, and Micro$oft..... well, of course, it’s never their fault!!!

So what do we do in the meantime?!?!?

Il y a quelques semaines, je me suis acheté un nouvel appareil numérique, et en installant le logiciel, Windows ne l'a pas reconnu. Je me suis alors acheté un lecteur de cartes, et c'est l'idem, il n'est pas reconnu. Entre-temps, je me suis aussi acheté un disque dur externe, et il n'est reconnu par aucun des 4 USB. Alors que mon ancienne clé USB, mon ancien disque dur et la souris fonctionnent. En fait, je ne sais pas quand le problème est survenu. Dans le gestionnaire de périphériques, il n'y a aucun point d'interrogation. J'ai désinstallé tous les contrôleurs de bus USB, redémarré Windows, mais je n'arrive pas à installer automatiquement. J'ai dû faire une restauration du système pour que la souris fonctionne à nouveau. Qui a une solution, merci d'avance;

Hello!  I’m looking for a solution...my laptop recognizes my peripherals whenever it feels like it!!!??? I have three USB ports with two hubs: one that works without any problem, the other recognizes my external hard drive and sometimes my printer. Hello I have a similar problem. My PC recognizes new USB devices but asks for driver installation. And in the middle of the installation, it encounters a problem and stops. For those who want an answer, you need to try the following technique:  Control panel => System => Hardware tab => Device Manager  If you have a bus controller with a yellow question mark in front of it, right-click and uninstall it.  Then restart and you're good to go... I hadn't had USB ports for a year, I'm rediscovering this joy.

Hello,  My problem was as follows:  - I had a USB drive that was properly detected (right-click on "My Computer" => "Properties" => "Hardware" tab => "Device Manager" => "Universal Serial Bus controllers" => "USB Mass Storage Device"), but it didn't appear in my computer. Thus, I couldn't use it. I simply (note: you need to know this) right-clicked on "My Computer" => "Manage" => in the "Name" window, clicked on "Storage" => "Disk Management (Local)". It's simple, for all your new problems, create a new post for each one, and make sure to first look for posts similar to yours to discuss your issues. And there you have a better chance of getting a response. There are questions that have no place in this topic... But! First, follow and read the entire topic (the 3 pages! Yeah...) and you're sure to find some answers to your questions. Otherwise, here’s a quick summary:  1) Update all your USB port drivers - if that doesn’t work, you will need the corresponding drivers, which can be downloaded from many sites - Or you can uninstall/reinstall the USB drivers, software, whether the disk is available or not...  2) Completely disconnect the computer, turn off its power (not with scissors, okay?) and open it up, clean it thoroughly from dust and all dirt, and check ALL connections, cables, plugged in or not, and once this is done, restart.  3) If despite all the forums you've visited, topics you've read, and attempts you've made, you're still having trouble, call a computer professional, even if it costs money, it's up to you.  OTHERWISE! The last alternative is as follows: Throw your PC out the window and make sure to film its crash below. It can be cathartic. But that doesn't mean you should follow my advice! Personally, I've never done it =)  There you go, good luck, take care and see you later!
