Number certain pages only in WORD Solved/Closed

Hello,

I would like to number ALL the pages of my Word document (which has about a hundred pages, it's my thesis). However, I would like the numbers not to appear on all the pages. For example: the cover page should not be numbered (it's ugly!), but the second page should show the number 2, not 1. Another example: occasionally, in my document, I have pages that are just meant to separate the different sections of my work. So page 33 only has a title in the middle, and similarly, it should not be numbered (again, it's ugly ;)), but the next page should indeed be 34, not 33. Is it possible to "erase" certain numbers while still keeping them counted in the overall numbering?

I thought about making those numbers white, so they wouldn't appear when I print my document. But then they all turn white!

Is there a specific function for that?

It’s very simple and it's not ugly!! ;))

When you don’t want numbering on a page, you insert a section break before and after that page.

You go to the footer of the section where the pagination should not appear, you disable the "Link to previous" option, you go to the next section and you disable 'Link to previous' as well. You return to the footer of the unnumbered section and you delete the numbering. In principle, by default, the numbering follows (to be checked in the numbering format => Following the previous section.

For the first page, the section break is unnecessary. You just need to check the "Different first page" option in the layout options.

I've always had difficulties with that function, but here's how I proceed.
Every time you want to change the appearance of your pagination, you need to insert a section break.
Then set the pagination for each section to start at the number you want, knowing that you can have continuous numbering, but here you need to juggle with the options.
For your example, insert a section break between the cover page and the next one, and start the numbering at 2 (or 1 if you prefer) for that second page.
That's quite simple to do.
It's for the rest that it can get more complicated.

Hello,

So for my version of Word (2000), regarding the non-numbering of the first page:
=> insert
=> page numbers
Just uncheck "start numbering on the 1st page"; and as a result, it numbers the 2nd page as 2.

However, for title pages, I can't even remember if there's a trick.
Faced with the problem one day, and in a hurry, I simply copied and pasted my chapter pages (I had 6 or 7) to reprint them, therefore without a number, and I replaced in the report my numbered chapter pages with the unnumbered copy, without disrupting the numbering.

But that's a good question you raise, and I will follow this thread. :-)

And otherwise, Pagination for Dummies (a really awful but accessible method for everyone, without tedious manipulation, without shifting everything around, etc.): I created a white, borderless text box that I pasted everywhere I didn't want a page number or header... it seems dumb, but hey, I saved a ton of time!
