Can you put laptop RAM in a desktop PC?

Hello,

My desktop computer doesn't have enough RAM to install a game. I have a recent laptop that doesn't work anymore. My question is, is it possible to take the RAM sticks from my laptop and put them in my desktop? In short, can you use any RAM stick?
