2 internet windows open at the same time

Hello,

When I click on the "Internet Explorer" icon, SOMETIMES (not always) 2 windows open (with Google as the homepage for both).

Where does the problem come from and how can I make it so that only one window opens when I click on the icon? (I have Internet Explorer 8.)

P.S.: Please don't give me comments like "use Mozilla."

Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 8.0

Hello, you should check the registry to see if you have a "secondary start page" in addition to the "start page."

Type "regedit" in the search on Vista or in Run on XP
Click on the + or the little triangle in front of:

HKEY CURRENT USER
SOFTWARE
MICROSOFT
INTERNET EXPLORER

Click on MAIN

And let me know if there is "secondary start page" or a similar expression.

No, the same problem still occurs =(
Sometimes I get one window, sometimes 2 (about 1 time out of 2).
Does anyone know the cause of this problem or how to fix it??

Personally, I understood what's going on: if I click on the desktop icon, I need to double-click for an Internet window to open. But if I click on the icon in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen, if I double-click, two windows open, and if I click once, only one window opens!

I assure you... well, that's one way to put it... I have the same problem with Internet Explorer 8, it randomly opens windows on its own from time to time. On the other hand, I don't have a problem with Firefox... Windows is really crap!

Hello, to solve the problem of the 2 windows opening at the launch of Explorer 8, go to start - run - then copy this: inetcpl.cpl
then in the properties window (Internet General) that opens you will see 2 predefined default addresses, that is to say... for example:

you delete one address (select then cancel) then click at the bottom on applicca (in Italian) Ok!

olibass... I thought you were going to make me do something really clever by going through the "run" menu! But no... It would have been simpler to say: "Check the 'Tools' menu, under 'Internet Options', 'General' to see if you have 2 homepage addresses, right?

Anyway, I only have one internet address in that box and it's the customized "Google"...

I should keep looking for a solution. This one isn't right.

No, I didn't click too many times; moreover, I even tried:
- from the Start menu, (it does the same for me)
- by clicking once on the icon and then pressing enter, (it does the same for me)
- and by right-clicking on the icon and then selecting open. (it does the same for me)

So it's not about the number of clicks, that's for sure...

No, there is no "Secondary Start Page," nor any expression that resembles it.
I repeat that this doesn't happen all the time (most of the time).

if only one page appears, it would mean that it's coming from your Google page.

I tried, but there are still 2 pages that sometimes open.
And on my other computer, I also have Google as my homepage and only one page opens, so I think the problem doesn't come from Google.

I completely restored the system, reinstalled IE 8 but nothing works, still the 2 windows that sometimes open.
Is there anyone using IE 8 who has the same problem or can someone help me resolve this issue please?
