What's the difference between deleting and blocking a contact

Hello,

I want to stop seeing a person from my contact list when I log in.
Is it better to just block them or to delete them?
I would still like to have the option to talk to them.
Will the person notice that I've blocked or deleted them? If so, how? During their login? When they want to talk to me or send me an email?

Thank you for your help.Configuration: Windows Vista

Here is the subtle difference between deleting and blocking a contact in most instant messaging tools (Snapchat, WhatsApp, etc.).
  • If you block a contact, you will appear offline in their contact list. They will appear under their normal status in your contact list, but with a small logo indicating that you have blocked them.
  • If you delete a contact from your list, you will no longer be able to talk to them, but they will still see you under your normal status in their contact list and will be able to message you whenever they like.
  • If you block and delete a contact, they will no longer appear in your contact list. In return, they will not be able to message you since you will appear offline in their contact list even when you are online.

Hello,
I'm following up on one of your previous discussions. So if I understand correctly, if a contact has deleted me, regarding Whatsapp, I can still see them online on my side?
Thank you.
