First of all, make sure that the Review mode is turned off, then:
On the Review toolbar, click the dropdown arrow on the "Accept Change" button and choose "Accept all changes in the document".
If you do not want to accept them, you need to reject them => that's the next button.

It's important to understand that the dropdown list (Final, Final Showing Markup, Original, Original Showing Markup) is only used to display or not display the revision marks.

If you're still seeing the marks, it means you haven't accepted the changes. That's clear.
We can choose different display modes to see them or hide them, but that doesn't mean they're accepted.
Which version of Word are you using?

Regarding the comments, if they shouldn't be seen by the recipient, yes, they need to be deleted.
