Hello,
I am using Nero StartSmart to create a slideshow with photos, music, and transitions. I am able to burn it, but I cannot play it, neither on my DVD nor on my computer, and I don't really know what to do. Thank you in advance.

Hello Audrey,
What kind of format are you burning? Please explain in more detail what you're doing? Thanks.
If it's a file, then it shouldn't be a file with the .nvc extension, because it's not a video file, it's just the backup.
Are you correctly choosing your burner in "Burn to..."?
I advise you to use rewritable CD and DVD RW discs for burning, if you have them, so you don't waste discs for nothing?
Best regards

It's an .nvc file, if that's the problem, how can I change it? Thanks!!!
With NeroVision, you have at least three options to create a video slideshow (it can be a DVD-Video, an SVCD, or a VCD). The first method involves creating a file such as AVI or MPG, meaning a "classic" video file.
Method 1:
To create the video file, after you’ve made your slideshow, you need to click "Next" to start editing in the desired format. There, you will add a menu, a title for example, and at the end, you will have the option to burn it onto the disc inserted in your burner.
Generally speaking, for a photo slideshow, VCD or SVCD is sufficient, and they can be burned onto a CD. However, I recommend burning onto a rewritable CD-RW to see if it suits your needs for the first few tries.
Method 2:
But you can also create the same slideshow in the form of a video file like AVI, which will be playable on a DivX-compatible standalone player.
I will use Nero 7, which I have, as an example, but it should be pretty similar for later versions.
For this, after you’ve created your slideshow as you wish, click the "Export" button. In the new window that opens, you can choose the export format, meaning for VCD it’s in MPEG-1, for SVCD or DVD-Video it’s MPEG-2, the first MPEG-2 is actually MPEG-1 and the second MPEG-2 is in MPEG-2, Nero Digital is MP4 so don’t choose that as it won’t be playable, and finally AVI.
For the AVI container, you can then select the desired codec, either go for XviD or DivX, and for audio, choose MP3 if you have it; otherwise, try AC3, DTS, or PCM, and maybe Vorbis if your standalone player supports it. In fact, the parameters you can choose depend on the options you have. Then you can also modify the resolution (the size of the image, the image format (4:3 or 16:9). For the video mode, PAL is better if you live in Europe; otherwise, for North America, it’s NTSC.
Anyway, do some tests, have fun ;)
Then finally, choose a location for your file, and you will burn this file as a data disc.
In short, use the help available; experiment, make mistakes, it’s still the best way to learn, because there are few tutorials on this topic on the Internet.
But you can check out existing tutorials on creating a DVD-Video (it's the same for a VCD or SVCD) in the case of the first method. They will give you an idea of what to do.
See you later
