Hello, I would like to know how to use the German B (a sort of beta in Greek) which is pronounced like SS

Good evening,

If you're used to a French AZERTY keyboard, I really don't see the point of bothering to switch to a German QWERTY keyboard just for one letter!!

The ASCII code is ALT+225 ßßß

Depending on the software used, you can assign a keyboard shortcut of your choice (like in Word, for example).

1. The character ß (Alt+225) is part of the extended OEM ASCII code
2. The character ß (extended ANSI ASCII) is obtained by the key combination Alt + 0223.
Indeed, both combinations are possible.

It's easy, you just press alt+225 and it makes ß.

Just for your information, the two "s" in German, that is: ß, is called (I don't know how to write it properly, but that's how it's pronounced): "ess tzete."

Right-click on FR at the bottom right / Settings / Add / Input language: German (Germany) / Keyboard layout (IME): German / OK.

Then left-click on FR at the bottom right and select DE, and type the character on the key where it appears on German keyboards.

Hello,
The Esszet is, as its name indicates, a ligature of S and Z.
But with the ongoing spelling reforms in Germany, it is no longer clear where to write ß and where to write ss. Only the sz variant is archaic…

For those who do not have ß on their keyboard, it can be obtained by pressing [ALT] + 0223. Or simply enter the code & #223 (without spaces) on this forum.

In Start, select All Programs, go to Accessories, System Tools, then Character Map, select the ß and copy it into your text; there is a whole list of special characters.

J'ai suivi les étapes, juste pour la configuration du clavier IME je trouve, j'ai quand même mis allemand mais les lettres sont les mêmes..

I know this post is marked as resolved.
Like many people, I arrived here through the first Google link that answered my question. The answers I found here didn't help me.

That's why I want to share another simpler way for the ß sign. It's simply the key combination altgr + s. (alt gr is the one to the right of the spacebar)

No need to buy a German phone to be able to make an "ß"! Consumer society, here we are...

If you have a Samsung smartphone (I don't know about others, but I think it should be the same), you can do as with all special characters, that is to say, press and hold the "s" for a few seconds.
That's what I do, and it's much cheaper than having to buy a phone that will only be useful for a short time if you are in Germany temporarily!
