Hello,
I have a LaCie design Neil Poulton external hard drive, and I would like to disassemble it to recover the hard drive without breaking the case.
I don't see any screws, nothing that could remove the case.
Despite several searches on our dear friend Google, I haven't found anything on this subject.

Hello,
I did it!! However, it wasn't my first time trying.
A small screwdriver (3-4 mm diameter) on each side (or even two on the longer sides) to pry open the cover. One last screwdriver to lever near a corner along the length.
And there you go.

just for your information.
apparently there might also be a way to take apart this disc, using cards like "credit cards."

Hi. Check if there are any small plastic or rubber feet under the casing; sometimes the screws are hidden underneath.
See you!

Well, I can't find it on the internet, but it must be dismantleable anyway.
How were the legs fixed under the casing? With screws or just glued?
And when you turn the hard drive over, is there a slot that might suggest that this casing is in two parts (and therefore dismantleable) or is it really in one piece? (That would be surprising, but still)
If it is in two pieces, a box + the bottom (where the feet are), try inserting something into the slot to maybe start unclipping the two elements...

ok so if you confirm that it's indeed in two parts, that's where everything happens.
you need to manage to separate the two pieces "delicately" because the plastic must be quite fragile.
a pretty good thing for disassembling this kind of stuff is a guitar pick. (stiff enough to slip between the two pieces, and it doesn't damage the plastics too much)
a knife or a screwdriver can work as well but it really messes up the material.

Sorry, I don't have a guitar pick on hand. But I managed to take it apart, thank you.
For those who want to know, there are 6 plastic clips accessible by prying apart the plastic casing; once 2 clips are removed, you can gently pull on the metal bottom plate. And there it is, the disc appears.
Thanks for your help, moudubulbe.

Good evening, I myself bought a Lacie (nema) 1TB and I managed to open the case. However, I was still wondering. There is a sticker on one of the screws, I imagine we lose the warranty if we damage it...
Then I would like to know if the hard drive is easy to remove from the case?
Thank you for the clarifications.

Yes, there is a good chance that somewhere there is some sort of marking for the warranty; the label on a screw could be one. So when disassembling, either we manage to do it very cleanly, and the warranty may still be valid for future use, or we mess up.
So we take apart with full knowledge of the facts.
Otherwise, once the case is open, the hard drive should come apart easily, I imagine. Maybe a few screws on the sides of the drive to remove, and all that's left is to disconnect it... it's the same drives as in a desktop PC.

Hello everyone,
I'm questioning the power supply of the external hard drives because I'm having the same problem... I also have a LaCie Design Neil Poulton 500G and when I plug it into the computer, I get a write error after 5 minutes or simply USB device not recognized...
My question... I would like to dismantle it WITHOUT breaking the case, and be able to take the hard drive out and connect it directly to the computer... (I've tried with adapters, without success)
Several friends have put it in the computer and then it works perfectly... (However, they broke the case) :S
So, if you have any solutions or comments, it would be really appreciated!! ^^
Thank you very much in advance
