Reinstall old version of messenger

Solved

Hello,
Here is my problem:
I installed the MSN update, so now I have Messenger 2009 and I absolutely want to go back to the previous version because I find this version completely awful. So I would like to know if it is possible to uninstall Messenger 2009 without losing my personal MSN data, but especially without losing my emails because I have the impression that I can't uninstall Messenger without uninstalling Windows Live Mail?

I tried system restore, but I can't create a restore point to an earlier date (I admit I don't quite understand how it works!)

I've only had a PC for a few months, so I still struggle with this kind of issue!!

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

Thank you in advance for your responses
Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7.0

    Good evening,

To uninstall your WLM 2009 version, you can follow the steps provided in this link ==> http://www.jenyburn.com/home/comment-desinstaller-windows-live-messenger-2009-sous-windows-vista/

Then, to reinstall version 8.5, you can follow this procedure ==> http://www.jenyburn.com/home/comment-reinstaller-windows-live-messenger-85-de-2008/

If you need another link than the one proposed above, to download Windows Live Messenger 8.5 (or 2008) ==> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=7A1AAE73-48CC-4F7A-B445-0487BD5E84EF&displaylang=en

Hello and thank you for your responses.

But what I mainly want to know is if by following the procedures you suggested, I risk losing my personal data (those from Messenger but especially my emails) because I don't want to lose my emails, so if anyone can answer me, I would be very grateful.

      Thank you

      P.S.: Nice quote from Plato...

    Hi,

As for your contacts or your messaging, you won't lose anything by uninstalling your current version.
Actually, it’s the software you are uninstalling and not your Windows Live account that you are deleting, so after reinstalling Windows Live Messenger (version 8.5 in your case) and if you log in with the same address, you will find everything.

When you’ve done the operations, come back to the topic to let us know if everything went well ;-)

    Have a good evening...

      Good evening,

Here it is, I don't know why but I can't uninstall Windows Live by following the steps from the link you gave me.

In fact, when I try to uninstall from the control panel -> programs and features -> uninstall/change, nothing happens, my PC doesn't want to uninstall it but when I want to uninstall another program it works. So if there's another way to uninstall Windows Live, please let me know, it would really help me.

      Thanks again.

Looking forward to your reply, have a good evening!!!!

    Re,

If you can't do it via the control panel:

1°) You can use the Windows Install Clean Up utility.

Download and install it from this link ==> http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/9/D/E9D80355-7AB4-45B8-80E8-983A48D5E1BD/msicuu2.exe

Launch it (from the start menu > All Programs) and select in the window that appears, the version of Windows Live Messenger you want to uninstall (WLM 9 or 14.0.8064.0206) and all programs related to Messenger > click on "Remove" then on "Exit"

If needed, read: Installation/uninstallation problem of MSN Messenger

    Restart the PC.

    Reinstall version 8.5 ==> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=7A1AAE73-48CC-4F7A-B445-0487BD5E84EF&displaylang=en

2°) If it fails again, you can use ZapMessenger (uninstallation utility for Windows Live Messenger (all versions) ==> https://www.wikikou.fr/

      Good evening,

First of all, I would like to thank you for your advice and help.

Actually, none of the procedures you suggested worked. For Windows clean up, I’m told: "Cannot find the script engine 'VBScript' for script C:\Users\flavia,...", so that doesn't work. And for zapmessenger, when I download it, my VLC media player appears (apparently it's supposed to open zapmessenger with VLC, which seems rather strange to me) and nothing happens, so in the end, there's no way to uninstall anything.

If you have another solution or advice to give me, I’m all ears, even though I feel like my situation is quite desperate.

Thanks again and have a good evening.

Hello, my name is Estelle and I am quite skilled in computers. I had the same problem as you, so it’s very simple. You need to reset the entire Windows Live system… but don’t worry, it won’t delete your photos or folders for example. You will have to restart it after that and go online, but I warn you that it is impossible to download the 2008 version for free on the net because only the 2009 version is available, and at that time, my dad gave it to me!!! So figure it out for the rest. DO YOU HAVE A MSN ADDRESS??? If so, give it to me and vice versa so I can give you the 2008 version.

Good evening and thank you for your help.

Here is my MSN address flavia_baffiera@hotmail.com

It's strange that you tell me I can't download the 2008 version because I downloaded it, I'm just being told that I can't install it until I uninstall the 2009 version

Anyway, could you explain how I should reset Windows Live?

      Thanks again

    Re,

For émeraude98 ==> I'm warning you it's impossible to download the 2008 version for free on the web because only the 2009 version is available
I hope you're joking! Windows Live Messenger version 2008 is still available for download on quite a few sites and completely free of charge.
If some unscrupulous sites offered it to you for a fee, it was your choice to refuse and seek information elsewhere (the web is vast...).
So please avoid making such statements Estelle who is quite skilled in IT ;)

    For flavia20:
If I have one piece of advice for you... it's to never give out your email address as soon as someone asks for it, especially not on a national forum visible to everyone, an address is personal! (that's just my personal opinion).

As for ZapMessenger, there’s no special installation to do, just unzip the file after downloading it (on your desktop), which is in .zip format to extract the executable that you can launch.
You'll need software to unzip the files (Winzip, IZArc, or WinRAR for example) because no, it's not VLC Media Player that can do it...
By right-clicking on the zip file icon, do you have the option "extract here"? If yes, click on it and a file ZapMessenger.exe will appear (still on your desktop), open it, a window will appear > click on Start.
    The uninstallation is starting.

      Hello,

I really want to thank you for all your advice and help because it finally worked. I was able to uninstall MSN 2009 and reinstall the old version.

And it's true that I didn't really think when I posted my MSN address on the forum!!

But it's okay, the main thing is that you managed to solve my problem!!!

      So thank you once again.

    Good evening,

The topic has been marked as resolved... Flavia reinstalled a version prior to 2009.
And for the older Messenger versions, Julie, lift your eyes a bit and you'll see that Marc has already provided a link, the same as yours actually...
