Hello, I have a little problem with my Wii that I just bought second-hand. It’s not modded, and the seller powered it up in front of me to show me that it was working... The problem is that when I got home, I plugged it in, put in a game, and when I selected the disc channel, it says: unable to read the disc, please refer to the Wii manual for more details. The issue is that I don’t have the manual... I’ve tried with 5 games, and each time it’s impossible to play, always the same message... Can you help me??

Hi,

I have pretty much the same issue, the only difference is that the message only appears with one game (Wii Party), the disc is not scratched and it hasn't been inserted the wrong way. All the other games work fine, so I don't understand.

Hi,

If your problem only occurs with one game, it's not a big deal. It's just the lens that is dirty. You need to clean it with this.
The issue comes from the fact that "big" games are burned on dual-layer DVDs. When the lens is dirty, it has trouble reading the second layer.

1 Maybe you are missing a file
2 The CD is in good condition
3 If the Wii has fallen, it could have moved essential components

Do you have the seller's address? Because generally, when selling a second-hand Wii, it is either stolen or in bad condition

Well, you burned out the lens

since the CD was out of sorts, it forced itself to read, and it overheated

apart from changing the optical block, there's nothing else you can do.

The product was purchased in December 2007 (it is no longer under warranty), without knowing its degree of wear on the inside (it looks new from the outside), it seems super quick to me that the lens is already damaged simply due to improper handling...

One must acknowledge that Nintendo is not very good with CDs, considering this is their first real console to use CD support, and yes, the Wii is fragile.

but if it's really the lens, then I guess there must be a bunch of broken Wiis because of a disc put in the wrong way (unless I'm the only one who put it in the wrong way).

go to the store where you bought it, there is generally a warranty for second-hand products that lasts from 2 to 3 months.

the problem is that I bought it from a private seller (on Le Bon Coin), who tested it in front of me and it worked perfectly...
since I didn’t handle the console at all, I inserted the CD on the wrong side into the console, and I don't know if that caused the breakdown, and if it just needs to be "reactivated"...

Playing from a hard drive is legal as long as you own the original games.
The downside is that it voids the Nintendo warranty.
