Disk I/O error on startup: what to do?

Ok. So let’s take the problem in order. Do you have a floppy disk drive, and if so, did you leave a disk in it?

If yes, remove it, and try to boot again.

If not, you need to go into the BIOS (the Delete key when you start the PC normally)
Once in the BIOS, navigate around without changing anything until you find Boot device priority, or something similar.
You go there and press Enter, there you should have

1st Boot Device or Primary Boot Device, with something in brackets ( [..] ) next to it, check that what’s in brackets is indeed your hard drive on which your operating system is installed.

If that’s not the case, go to the item in brackets, and press Enter. A list opens, and you select your hard drive with your system on it. Press Enter again. Once done, press Esc until you return to the main BIOS menu, and there you go to Save Settings and Exit, press Enter, it asks you to confirm, "Yes" and Enter.

Then see if your PC starts, and if not, check whether the message is the same.

To enter the BIOS it depends on the operating system and the PC. On XP Pro I think it’s F12; otherwise you can try F11 or F2 or Delete :) you press one of these keys (there’s bound to be one that works) at startup ... after that everything is indicated, you see your boot order and if it’s set to CD or floppy you put it back to hard drive :)

So I used the Windows CD to repair.

Unfortunately, it did nothing, so I had to format and goodbye to all my photos.

My PC is a Windows7 brand. The only operating system installed is Ubuntu.
