E3 error on Pixma MP 160 printer

Hello,
I have a Canon Pixma MP 160 printer, which is barely 1 year old.
I haven't used it for several months, and I've just plugged it into a new computer; so far, everything is going well.
Except that when I turn it on, the E3 message blinks on the LED. I just replaced both ink cartridges, but it didn't help.
This error is supposed to indicate a paper jam, but there is no paper in the printer.
I've tried several power-offs, with restarts while pressing multiple buttons simultaneously, etc... but nothing works.
I can't scan (message saying the printer is in maintenance, code 2.114.0 ?!), nor copy, nothing at all.
If anyone can help me solve my problem, that would be great !!

Thanks in advance!
Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7.0

    Good evening,

Perhaps some information on this link:

    http://imprimante-en-question.blogspot.com/...

The pads (under the print head when stopped) may have slightly come loose, you just need to gently press on them to unblock the machine.

    Have a good evening,

      Thank you very much Jann for your help, I tried to "tweak" the printer's belly but it didn't change anything... and I already visited the forum you recommended, but I didn't find anything to help me;
It is still under warranty until the end of the month, so I think I will take it back to the store!
      Thanks anyway!

Thank you for the advice, tomorrow I will do the test to see if the cartridge is faulty.

My printer is also stuck but with the message E5. No matter what I do, it won't recognize the cartridge, which is an original Canon.
I will probably change the machine because it's no longer under warranty, but the new one won't be a Canon (I see on forums that these machines are too temperamental and are meant for customers who have money and can afford to waste it without counting)
If you have an answer to the problem, please reply to me.

      Good evening,

E5 is a cartridge detection problem:
      - Either the cartridge is poorly inserted: remove it and reinstall it.
      - Check that the cartridge chip is not dirty or scratched.
      - If the error persists: at best the cartridge is defective, at worst the printer's electronic board is dead.

      Good luck!

        Good evening Vivi and Jann,

In the end, I "just" made a mistake by one year, and my printer is no longer under warranty!
I called a shop that repairs printers, and they already charge a minimum of €70 excluding tax for the service. For a printer that cost €63, it’s not worth it! The seller told me that these "entry-level" models are very light and have recurring problems.
I agree with Vivi, Canon is really for those who have money to spare!
        Good luck with your resolution!

        Have a good evening.

        Hello

Same issue with this MP160 printer error code E5 following a first change of new Canon cartridges. After contacting Canon customer service (obviously, the printer is just over a year old), here is Canon's response:

Thank you for contacting Canon customer service.

We regret that we cannot provide a favorable response to your request.

Indeed, we remind you that our manufacturer's warranty is for a duration of 1 year (your purchase in August 2007).

Furthermore, regarding your product, acquiring a new device is more advantageous than repair. Indeed, the price of products has decreased over time while the prices of spare parts and repair costs remain the same or even increase. In addition, the shipping and return costs of the device are at your expense.

We also remind you that, as stipulated in the Canon warranty, consumables are excluded from it: we invite you to contact your dealer who is the only one able to assist you.

        Best regards,

Here is what I replied to them:

        Hello

I did not expect such a response from a company whose slogan is "you can"...
I urge you to modify it promptly...

Please note that to date my Canon purchases are as follows:

        - Canon S300 printer failed after 14 months

        - then came a Canon MP360 same just after the end of warranty

        - then an MP110 same "cartridge stuck" irreparably thrown away 18 months after purchase

        - then an MP160 (invoice attached) only one change of cartridges made two days ago and error code "E5" you blame your own cartridges of which the receipt is attached by asking me to contact Auchan to proceed with an exchange after opening, which is of course excluded, they refuse to do it which is justified on their part, but this, apparently, you cannot understand.

        - so not questioning the cartridges but rather the printer in question, I bought one today to replace this said printer: my choice is then on an MP190 (invoice attached) in order to install these new cartridges purchased the day before, and yes! it's still the only model I've found in Lille that accepts this type of cartridges and they work!!! surprising!!! you should question yourselves... I was not going to throw away new cartridges priced at just under €50, in this time of crisis, let's not exaggerate! and the operation I just performed was the most suitable to avoid losing too much money on products of more than dubious quality

        - I continue: I have an MP520 (invoice attached) and an MP530 (I can attach the invoice upon request) still under warranty so far so good... until when???

        - then let's stop if you will at my cameras: a Canon EOS 1000: no problem, phew!
        - a Canon PowerShot A100 failed after 18 months of normal use (barely 1000 photos),
        - continuing: a Canon PowerShot 70 failed after 2 years after barely 2000 photos: sensor dead obviously out of warranty (I still have it in my possession and can return it to you) replaced by a Canon A570 IS: heavy battery consumer!!!
and finally a Canon EOS 350D which for now poses no problem, purchased just a year ago...

Please know that your customer service is pathetic and that shifting responsibility to your suppliers is unacceptable for a company that wants to be a model of success.
I also invite you to work on the quality of your products, as it is no longer a model of reliability, proof is!

        Best regards

One piece of advice: stop buying Canon

        Hello,

And there you go, I’m free from Canon! I just bought an Epson printer (let's hope it won’t let me down under similar conditions). Let's buy in this direction; it's our only means of pressure (1 dissatisfied customer makes 7 lose) and if it creates a snowball effect, let's go for it!!!

Regards to all, and why not invest 15 € more in another brand that will be more profitable in the long run and even more eco-friendly...

    Hello everyone!
I have the same issue E5 but this is not my intervention, just a clarification:
the printer is guaranteed for one year according to the manufacturer's "will" but legally it's two years of warranty. French law is based on that of the European Union which is stronger.
I also had an issue with a mobile phone manufacturer, but when I told them it was two years and that I wouldn't hesitate to contact 60 million consumers, being within my rights, the after-sales service changed their mind.
So don't hesitate when you're told that the warranty is one year, feel free to argue that it's two years and that legally, you are within your rights!

    Hello,
turn it on, open the hood for a few seconds and start the printing. Normally it should work now. Error E3 canceled!!!
