Hello,
I just installed Gears of War (the installation was very long, notably because I wasn't asked for the CD key) and when I launch the game, the following error message appears: C:\Programme files\micros...etc...\gears of war\binaries\wargame-g4wlive.exe: the game cannot be run with a modified executable code. Please reinstall the game.
I want to specify that I haven't touched anything in the game's directory and reinstalling doesn't change anything!
If anyone has a solution, I thank you in advance!
PS: I'm on Vista and I have an excellent configuration.

The solution is as simple as it is stupid: the problem comes from the DRM (Digital Rights Management). Gears of War contains a security certificate intended to protect the game; this certificate expires on January 28, so all holders of Gears of War PC should no longer be able to play after that date!! The trick is to change the PC date to a date prior to January 28, 2009. In my case, I set the PC to January 1, 2009, I launched the game and everything works perfectly! Consult this article:
http://www.pcinpact.com/actu/news/48777-gears-wars-drm-certi ficat-securite.htm
Too much protection kills protection....
Have fun playing everyone!-
It's crazy, this story!!!
But aren't they a little insane? Now they're selling expired games; soon they'll be selling empty game boxes, why not!!
The crackers are the happiest, not only do they get their games for free, but on top of that, they're not bothered like the suckers we are.
Too much protection kills the protection... well said! -
Who are you telling this to! I work for a wholesaler in video games, and I can tell you that I'm tearing my hair out with the publishers, all more incoherent than the others.
Regarding Gear of War, I solved the problem as mentioned above by changing the date on my PC, and then I found the correct patch (thankfully, they fixed their blunder!)

I believe some have not understood or forgotten the spirit of forums; it is about helping each other and discussing, not accusing or fighting. Not all players are "Gamers," and therefore, they are not all aware of the issues that may arise with a game, nor the solutions to fix these problems. Forums allow casual players, who may not fully master computers, to find solutions so they can enjoy the game they purchased, often at a high price. I find it frustrating that after buying a game for nearly €50, it doesn't work after installation, without any further explanation. I manage quite well with computers, and when I encountered this problem, it took me quite some time to find the solution. Do not forget the community spirit and mutual aid of the forums. Even if Microsoft has developed a patch for Gears of War, one still needs to be informed about it; forums are therefore a valuable source for finding solutions when they are not polluted by meaningless discussions.
No one is expected to do the impossible. -
Anyway, I have nothing to blame myself for since I have the original of the game ^^.

Yes, it's to say that I recently bought Gears of War and I tried all the patches that don't change anything for starting the game. I also changed the date, and what's happening is that the game starts and then returns to the desktop without error messages. Can you help me please?

I have exactly the same problem: Gears of War (original CD) on Vista Home SP1, after a long installation, I launch the game and there:
C:\Programme files\micros...etc...\gears of war\binaries\wargame-g4wlive.exe: the game cannot be run with a modified executable code
the XP compatibility mode doesn’t work either
I don’t know what to do...
If a charitable soul could come to our aid!
Thank you -
Here is the patch to fix this issue:

Hello hello gamers, I’ve had the game since last month, and when I install it, an error message occurs during the extraction of the files, after about 40 minutes of installation, and this message closes or cancels the installation that was almost complete, so I can’t play it. If anyone has an idea, please let me know, I’m on Vista 32 SP1.

Hello everyone,
I have the solution. To run GOW, you need to set your PC's date to January 1, 2008.
And believe me, it worked for me, and I had the same problem as you.
I’m waiting for a response, so did the game work or not?
Bye!!! -
Anyway, thank you very much for taking the time to respond to us
because I struggled for a while to launch this damn game^^
thanks again ++ -
I tried to fix the problem by installing the update you mentioned.
When I try to open it, the program that opens is Asus CPU Update....
There... I'm lost and I'm fed up...
Any idea? Or at least an explanation?-
I've resolved this issue that I saw in another post:
(copy/paste)
So you need to download the patch, but when you launch it, some may get the Asus Update window to flash the BIOS... You need to go to programfiles/asus/asusupdate/ and delete the update executable file, and then the miracle happens.
I want to specify that I personally did this operation. (It worked for me) EXCEPT that once you've installed your patch, restore the executable that you deleted (which is now in the Recycle Bin), it might be useful later if you want to update your BIOS.
See you!

I forgot to write that I have the error report \gears of war\binaireis\wargame-g4wlive.exe: the game cannot be executed with a modified executable code and nothing works. Thank you for your help.

Alors, je vous réponds la réponse est bête, pour le développement installé, il faut installer le patch, il faut 5 CD vierges pour l'installer, et après tu attendras, jusqu'à ce qu'il marche.

Hello,
"The use of a noCD/DVD crack is permitted as long as one owns the original."
--> False of course:

Don't thank me, go buy 5 Virgin ciders, install the patch and you'll wait 7 hours and you'll play Warcraft, that's stupid.
-
You need to go through the system and create a network and launch a DDoS attack on your friend's computer, got it? It's not hard, and if you can't do it, then you're dumb.

Before coming to complain on a forum saying that you are being taken for fools, do your research!!
They are not selling outdated games, a mistake, even for a video game, can happen to any game publisher. Moreover, Gears of War is not recent. Then, if some of you had taken 5 minutes of your time before grumbling to read the responses provided or some news on video games (because most specialized gaming sites reported on it), you would have known what kind of error it was and how to resolve it.
For my part, I downloaded the game and used a crack to make it work and strangely, the game didn't work for me either... Why? Because the license was erroneous. Otherwise, whether pirate or not, no one can play it without the patch or changing the date on the PC.
