Hello,
I recently bought Gears of War. The installation poses no problem, but when I start a new campaign, the game crashes.
I don't understand what's happening.
I have:
- an Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 2.2GHz
- 2046 DDR2
- Nvidia GeForce 8300 GS

Thank you lapierrebike!!!!
Since I bought it, there have been non-stop returns on Windows!!
Well, I did what you said! I put it on SP2 and now it’s good!!
Just to let you know, my PC configuration is:
Intel Core Quad 2.4GHz
GeForce 8800GTS
1TB hard drive
3GB of RAM and Vista!!!
And it still didn’t work!
Do what lapierrebike told you and launch the game with Windows Media Center. -
Hello, I have the same kind of problem except that for me it says:
"To run Gears of War with your current hardware configuration, you need to install the following software updates:
+ ATI Catalyst driver version 8.411.0.0
If you do not install this software, the game will freeze at some point and your progress will be lost.
But my graphics card is up to date and I can't find anything to get me out of this situation, so if someone could help me it would be appreciated, thanks. -
I found this: here: https://www.jeuxvideo.com/forums/1-10709-116521-1-0-1-0-0.htm
This is a fix for solo play, not for Live, because it's precisely this Live thing that crashes for many people and there's no resolution from the publisher!

Fix here:
http://utforums.epicgames[...]thread.php?t=585332
https://bookmaker-ratings.ru/
http://rapidshare.com/fil[...]/WarEngine.ZIP.html
You need to overwrite the existing files, a backup of the old ones is of course recommended and free for future updates, etc...
Usage instructions:
1. Overwrite existing files while keeping the directory structure.
2. Launch the game and play.
Live support was disabled (profile will be saved in your My Games folder) and only LAN games will work.
There won’t be any checks for ping and the game will be fully playable over Hamachi or any other VPN.
If you want to play over Hamachi, make sure that the Hamachi virtual adapter has higher priority than
all your other network connections.
Yes, all players will have Player1 as a name, it is not changeable unless you "hex" OnlineSubsystemPC.u.

P.S.
After you overwrite existing files, all your previous saves will be lost.
P.P.S.
You can disable startup movies by removing StartupMovie from WarEngine.ini. -
You need to go to the game directory ("C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Gears of War\Binaries\Startup.exe") and run this file as an administrator, launching it from the same file. I recommend creating a shortcut on the desktop, and enjoy the game!

Hello everyone, I just read the first page of this forum, here’s my problem:
It's pretty much the same as yours with catalyst 8.411.0.0 that needs to be installed, then once it’s done, nothing happens. But when I go to the link you mentioned at the beginning, I’m probably a big mess with computers but I can’t understand what I need to do. If you could enlighten me, that would be nice because I would still like to play my game, that’s kind of the point of a PC game ^^
Thanks, bye everyone. -
Hello,
I bought Gears of War on PC and I'm having problems with the map editor to create one because it's supposed to be possible to do so, but I can't get it to work.
Here’s my PC configuration:
-Processor AMD Athlon 64 X2 2800+
-MSI K9A platinum motherboard
-Memory 2048 MB (2 X 1024)
-Point-Of-View Nvidia 8600 video card (1024 MB)
-Integrated Realtek audio card
-500 GB hard drive (465 actual)
-10/100/1000 integrated network card
I have already checked the official site and they told me it might be related to the Startup; please, I need help. They also gave me a file name: "Startup.exe editor -cookededitor -installed," but I can't find it on the CD while exploring.
Help!!!! I need assistance, please. It's super cool to have the chance to create maps, and it frustrates me not to have it.
I’m begging you, help me; I’m completely lost.
Thank you all in advance for your generous help. -

I found
right-click on the game icon and properties
compatibility tab and Windows XP SP2
apply and start the game
if it works, mark the discussion as resolved. -
So when I change it and set it to SP2, it no longer recognizes the CD or it changes the language.
